This is the best video ever! I'm definitely coming back to this once I get rejected from all my "dream" schools.

In case any high schoolers are reading this, listen up: I applied to five colleges. I got into two of them. I made the decision to attend the college I did because the students at the other one all seemed like losers. Now I'm in grad school, getting a STEM PhD.

You'll be fine.

just got rejected from every ivy. I didn't want to apply everywhere, but my relatives forced me to. For anyone else in a similar situation, everything's fine don't panic. This is just a temporary setback, You'll do well.

Rising senior here, currently in college app season.

I feel like my friends and everyone in my fake-ass competitive school needs to watch this video.

I've sorta had this mindset, but you explained it perfectly. I'm not wise or enlightened btw, I just created so many more problems for myself during high school that I simply didn't give a shit about college as much as anyone else.

Now, I'm kinda grateful that I had bigger (self-imposed) problems to focus on instead of worrying about something I barely have any control over. It taught me that all I can really do is focus on what I can control. The only thing I fear is failing myself (boy am I good at that though sometimes)

That being said, I'm taking college as seriously as I can. I want to make sure that I gave this process my best, not for anyone else but myself. But, I'm not really sweating it. I

I know that the tools from high school that will actually be important are the things I learned about life. About myself, other people, and this limited time we all have

loved this video so much. as someone who DREAMED of going to stanford since they were literally an infant and was absolutely crushed when I didn’t get in this video healed some part of my soul.

now, i go to a much less prestigious state school, but am so much happier and fulfilled meeting totally awesome and brilliant people, and learning so much inside and out of the classroom.

people forget that colleges are businesses first, and not some holy organization that are educating the world and changing the lives of their students. i wish i had understood that in high school! i think more people also need to hear that prestigious universities are really a tool that the wealthy use to validate their wealth, and that they are built to accommodate that. the more stories i hear of people getting into crazy schools like darthmouth, brown, yale, ect, the more i realize that it was their wealth and their ability to pay for summer school, sat class, extracurriculars, ect that got them in, not their outlook on intellectualism or wisdom necessarily.

life is absurd, and so is college. go make the best of it

omg, i needed this last year. i got into a lot of “top” schools that a lot of people wish to get into but after getting in and doing more research i realized i never wanted to go to those colleges in the first place. i ended up going to my state flagship and i’m so glad i did that but i had such a huge dilemma and mental crisis when it came to committing bc i felt like i was giving up huge opportunities with the other schools. i wish i had the mindset i have now outside of high school, where you just realize what college you go to really doesn’t matter cause it’s just school at the end of the day unless you’re going into finance or something. it just sucks bc i stressed and spent so much time on my essays and apps just to not even want to go to those places

As someone with a 4.0 GPA from the top high school in Washington state who literally got rejected everywhere I applied where my friends with worse GPA and ECs got in. Everyone is always telling me this stuff that it doesn’t matter and it’s hard to accept but this video helped me feel better about myself lol so thanks.

glad i took this to heart! all the hard work just to get rejected from my dream college, when all i had to do was to look to the smaller college which gave me

-more financial aid
-more 1on1 with professors
-lower levels of stress(wait no im an engineering major, mind this)
-and the realization that its the same piece of paper in the end thats called a degree

i got accepted into Tufts off the waitlist when the last years WL acceptance rate was 0%. It was my dream school since day 1 of my college app process, I was manifesting every day with my friends to get in, and when i got in I absolutely EXPLODED. But then I did more research, and the freshman housing crisis for the fall semester meant a significant possibility I would be living in a TRAILER PARK for my freshman year. I felt crushed, but I ultimately decided to go to UNC (in-state) on a full ride with guaranteed housing covered by my scholarship. Sometimes I look back and wonder what would happen if I committed, but I don’t think I regret my decision.

No what’s worse is getting in and not being able to afford it

My mom attended UCLA, USC and Georgetown. She told me that it doesn’t matter what school you go to for your undergrad, and worry more about it for your graduate degree.

Thanks for this. I’m a college senior currently pulling my hair out over the upcoming law school cycle. I’m aiming high and not sure I’m quite there yet. No telling how it’ll play out at the moment, but I really like what you said at 5:06. “It’s more important for you to figure out who you really are and what you want to do in your life, than get a head start on your plan for world domination.”

I needed to hear that, because I need to chill the fuck out a bit. If I need a gap year or something to really be ready, it’s no big deal. It’ll all work out.

I got rejected from my dream college and had everything planned out - the city I would explore, the projects I would work on, the rivers I would boat on with my friends. It was all mapped out in my head, I don't know what to do now and am considering taking a gap year. I'm conflicted about whether to chase empty dreams or go to another almost equally good (academically atleast) college in a different city that I got into.

As a sophomore in college, my advice is to pick the cheaper school over the "more "prestigious" school. I was fortunate to be blessed by the financial aid gods, but I know too many people at my college who have to take out 60-70k loans EACH YEAR. It's easy to brush that number off when you're a student and say that you'll just pay it off with the great job you got thanks to your college, but the reality is that it will take years and years to fully pay off college loans

Also, a highly ranked college doesn't guarantee that it's good (for you). It's easy to focus on just the academic and/or social aspect of the college, but it's also important to consider location, climate, means of transport, and safety outside campus. Unless you're commuting, your college is your new home for the next 4 years. Make sure it's someplace you would want to live in

as a senior in highschool going into college next year, thank you so much for slapping my face with the reality. I always idealized the idea of college as some sort of magical fairy land where its all games and fun, but no its soooo far away from that.

Damn straight. Thanks for the advice, I'm currently starting my junior year in high school and your words have taken some dread out of the upcoming year and have given me some excitment for life again. Thank you.
