On the surface the iPad 10 looks good. It shares the modern squared off design of the higher-end iPad Air and iPad Pro, new landscape camera and USB-C, all for $449. Not bad. But after using the iPad 10 for the past weeks, I can tell you, there’s more to this story. As there are some key areas where the iPad 10 makes some big compromises that I want to share with you in this video, and why I think most may be better off buying a different model in the current iPad lineup. The iPad 10 makes 3 main big compromises. First is the display which is not laminated and does not have an antireflective coating, significantly impacting the viewing experience. Second is the performance, the iPad 10 uses the A14 Bionic chip, a three year old iPhone processor that won’t last nearly as long as the iPad Air’s desktop class M1 chip. Third is the iPad 10 only supports the first generation Apple Pencil, which is far inferior compared to the second generation Apple Pencil, in terms of features and usability. At the end of the day, had Apple priced the iPad 10 closer to the $329 iPad 9, these compromises would be more justified. But it is not, at $449, it’s $150 cheaper compared to iPad Air, for that $150 you loose a lot, display quality, performance, longevity and Apple pencil support, this is why it’s hard to recommend. If you have the cash I’d go for the iPad Air 5 instead. If you want a budget iPad, Apple still sell the iPad 9, old design yes but at $329 it’s hard to beat from a budget perspective.

I have got iPad Air 5th gen 64 GB and I use it for studying and notes taking and it is more than enough!

That’s the reason you have many options to choose from.because no matter what you say about the iPad 10, many people will still gonna buy the iPad 10. It’s a personal preference.

My grandparents upgraded from an iPad 5th Generation so I think that was a good investment but if it was from a 9 to a 10 it’s not really worth it

I’ve the base model 64GB yellow colour IPad 10. It works really well for my typing and emailing purposes. Now I’m not taking out my laptop anymore… IPad does the job for me…

I honestly think that Apple made the 10th gen iPad to be a hybrid of the 9th gen iPad and the iPad Air 4. Like the non-laminated display, the 1st gen Apple Pencil support + the Smart Connector placement from the 9th gen iPad and the design + chip of the iPad Air 4.

All products are a compromise. It is the bean counters that make engineering decisions and not the engineering division. This is why my iPad 10 has 256GB of hard drive storage. I thought about the Wi-Fi-cellular version but not very long at another $100+ and another monthly charge for cellular service. I am on my iPad 9, now. It is smaller than the iPad 10, but very functional.

i have to disagree with the lenght of support... apple ipad 5th gen was released in 2017 with A9 chip (A9 chip was introduced in 2015!!!) = still supported in 2023 (cpu is 8 years old but its compatible with iOS16) ipad Gen 6 comes with A10 - A10 was introduced in 2016 = 7 years after release still supported with iOS16
