Hot take: Lelouch not dying in the end makes the ending worse.
His death is absolute perfection, a tear jerker, a revelation of how much a man is willing to sacrifice in order to create a symbol of hope for the people he cared most.
Him being alive is just “lol, just a prank, bro. I’m chilling”

From what I was told, there are two endings. The anime ending and the movie ending. He dies in the anime, is revived in the movie.

He couldnt die, he had the code from killing charles. People say his death being fake ruins the series, to me it doesnt. As long as the world believed he died his mission was a success

When geass user at their peak, they are able to kill the code. Usually in order to gain the code, geass user need to kill their own code which resulting they lost their geass. But this isn't the case for Lelouch, he didn't kill his code (c.c.) instead he killed Charles who has obtained his code from v.v., so in the end of the series Lelouch has both his geass & code hence it's called Code Geass.

Lelouch did die but as depicted in the movie he was later revived as a code holder who follows C.C and based on the Geass symbol on his body he can more than likely give others geass (and the series that is apparently deleted is under the name of "Code Geass: Akito the exiled" and he is still alive in that series)

I'm not really sure. I mean they did release a trailer for a 3rd season and also hinted that he is still alive.

Lelouch died in the normal story R1 and R2.
But there is a alternative path with 3 movies which cover the R1 and R2 with some changes and then the Revival movie. I personally enjoyed that ending more but it’s really up to you

The creator said he died. The movies are non cannon. But its widely accepted that he lived. in fact its more likely that he lived. i mean the show is called code geass. he did complete the requirements to get both the code and the geass. Allowing him to be immortal. Which would also explain why the resurrections are non cannon.

He is still alive in main storyline as in the end C.C call on the cart right lelouch and cart driver was lelouch but they delete that part because of upcoming future movies

My understanding is that he does die and remains dead in the canon ending. But then there's an alternate timeline or whatever where he is revived.

Idk if it's still on YouTube but ages ago when I finished it, there was a comparison between the ending and the original ending that got deleted, in which it is implied that the person that was driving the carriage c2 was on, was Lelouch

I remember in one of the interviews with the original director being asked if Lelouch died at the end of the series. To which he answered.

"Lelouch story is over, he completed what he was set to do"

This claims that his objective is completed and is up to the viewer to decide if his alive or dead. A good open ending.

"Akito: The exiled" happens few days after Charles erasing Lelouch's memory, he just used him as a messager

Immortality is not attained by those who just train their geass to become perfect. It’s attained once you gain “the code” which is the symbol of the geass. Traditionally you have to power up your geass at the point where you can kill a code bearer get his code and lose your geass.

C.C wanted to die by the hand of Lelouch, and since she was immortal as a code bearer herself she granted him the geass to give him the means to kill her eventually. But Lelouch not only revitalized C.C’s reason for living, but also killed a code bearer, his own father (his father took the code from V.V). Because Lelouch killed a code bearer, he must have attained the code himself. But because he didn’t kill C.C who specifically granted him geass, he didn’t lose geass in the process. This last part is speculation on my behalf and I hope the series builds on it eventually, but it does check out. Lelouch has both the code and geass (Code Geass title drop), the 2 things that you can’t have together but as always Lelouch is the miracle man.

People calling Lelouch LL or L2 don’t realize that the whole point in the original show, shows him becoming L2 or R2. In Japanese there is no “L” pronouncing, instead there is conversion of “R” in the Japanese language especially when romanized. Just like the name of the show “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R1 & R2” season 2 being where he is R2 after taking Charles’s Code. Just like V2 and C2.

Basically in Japanese LL = RR. And in the Japanese version C2 and V2 are written as C.C. And V.V. So R2 = RR.

Lot of people think he died at the end but there are many key hints indicating that he was still alive. Lot of people don’t know but there was a premiere of the show early on Japan TV where Lelouch is shown to be alive at the ending of the season with C2. That is somewhere on YouTube and you can still find it. It was eventually taken down and asked about and confirmed later through the entire writing team that the ending was edited to be left up to the audience whether or not lelouch lived.

Even if someone combats that, there are still other hints. And how would Lelouch still have Geass if he’s a code user?

Lelouch shares his memories with Nunally like C2 did with suzaku. Only code users can do that alongside being immortal. Which he took from Charles after his Geass was strong enough to be in both eyes.

If that isn’t enough. The driver at the end of the show before the ending is shown to also have the same “tie” or “ascot” around his neck as Lelouch. Lelouch being alive is canon imo.

There are a ton of other hints in the show that would make this believable as well. Such as in some of the openings. It shows Lelouch on a black horse and a lot of people comment on it being funny since he doesn’t really ever get on a horse in the show. But it’s supposed to represent him as a “Black Knight” just like the one he commands.

Another being that in Opening 5 everyone is shown to be there in it, except you don’t see suzaku in the opening at all. Instead you see a foreshadowing of the ending and Suzaku becoming Zero towards the end where it shows Charles Schinzel Lelouch and Zero. The Zero shown there is Suzaku.

The show is littered details you have to pay attention to. One of the greatest written shows imo.

Glad he came back. He and CC are the main reason I watch Code Geass, and anyways it was far more of a just ending to the movie to give him a another chance at life after all his work. After all that he’s lost, it’s the life he could’ve had left to deserve to live as his real self alongside CC. Sure, there are people who can sacrifice their life away to death to change the world’s direction in history, but they are also no less human than us to not a have life or to not deserve a personally meaningful life where one is present and themselves in it to live some sense of satisfaction to life, and man was Lelouch far from it since childhood. Give the man some time and space to have some contentment in his life and live a little far more with CC. 🍷

I mean in the main timeline no he is very much dead but in the movie and spin off universe yes he is alive and is happily living with C2 occasionally coming back to help as Zero but is mainly retired as LL

When the geass users awake their code, if people touch them, they will see the memories of them, and yeah, you all know what happens to Nunnally when she touchs Lelouch hand at the end of the main series😅
