How to record your DJ set using an iPhone (or any phone really).
This is a quick look at how to connect your phone to your DJ mixer/controller and record your set. We look at a basic work flow of few apps and the recordings.

Gday Dave. Great video. Was just testing using DJM-Rec and GarageBand. It was only recording through the mic though and couldn’t find a setting to record through Lightning.

Is the TRRS the crucial adapter required to enable this?

Hey mate thanks for this video. I just ordered my trrs cable. Does anyone know software or a way to record video and audio together? I don’t want to use two phones and I don’t want to sync audio to video in my DAW. Is there a way to use my iPhone 13 Pro to record audio direct to my phone (not the room I’m recording in) and also the video and then export as a whole so I don’t get the sound of the room when I’m dj mixing in. Thanks

Whatever I do, it always records from the phone's internal microphone on all 3 apps. .... so basically, I can't seem to make it record or even detect the audio signal from the line in .... I checked the signal within the cables and they seem to work anywhere else I connect them....I would love to know where I could set the phone to record from the cable input and not the built in mic? That would be nice to find out, cause maybe I missed some important information along the way, who knows, also I read about a similar problem being solved on pioneer mixers, but because they connect directly via USB to the phone & they have an extra switch designated for this, but for the classic mix recordings, I did not find any solution online yet. I hope one of you guys knows more about this than I do. Thanks anyways and great video nevertheless!

So I did this and it only recorded through the phone’s microphone and instead of getting strictly the song I recorded I got everything in my room. What did I do wrong?

Great video. I’ve got the same issue as a few on here. I’ve bought the right leads, inc Apple one and I’ve bought a Rode lead. Just isn’t recognised on any app. Can you help please.

So I got mine to work just not the way Dave suggestion as it just didn’t work for me. I tried different leads Apple of course, Rode and others.

For me I used a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 Audio Interface at £22 and a Apple lighting to usb camera adapter at £29.00. Maybe a little bit more expensive but it works on iPhone and Mac/Pc (with recording software)

Just thought I’d share my solution as I know there is quite a few who also couldn’t get to work.

Wanted to know if it was possible to actually rip records onto the phone. Meaning I'd like to keep the quality as good as if it were recorded onto my pc. I use my XONE96 or 23 as a soundcard for the recording so the fact that it is on a phone or a PC shouldn't make any difference, or does it?

Hi Dave, I am having the same issue others are having. I have all the proper leads, but phone still picks up sound of the room. I am led to believe its an iPhone setting. I am curious if there has been a found fix you've scene after hearing from some others about it as well?

Is there anyone who can help a brother out helping me get to the bottom of getting this to work? I've tried using a Rode SC4 TRS to TRRS on three different mixers and can't get it to record?
I've asked around and there seems to be some people this works for and some it doesn't. Seems it's pretty consistent on controllers but less so using a traditional mixer? I've even tried bypassing mixer and the sound coming straight from the deck but still no joy!
Any advice much appreciated as it's driving me mad!

I have an ipad pro which i wish to use to record onto, however it is a usb-c connection instead of a "lightning connector"...is it possible with a 3.5mm jack to usb-c, if that is even a thing???

Can I record a dj set just as well or will there be a difference in sound quality? also can you tell me please which application would be good on my android phone?
