So…..let me set the scene.

You are struggling to accept something. Doesn’t matter you choose. What is something you are struggling to accept? Okay…..you can’t get over what has happened so you make an appointment with your therapist. You go to your therapist, explain the full situation {expecting this great psychological theoried response from your therapist} and your therapist’s response is……….

IT IS WHAT IT IS. {sips coffee}

Your réponse?

While a good therapist would express empathy and support, the hard reality is that life “is what it is.” LIFE HAPPENS. Life doesn’t wait around for us to decide how we want things to be done. You’ve probably heard from your mom or dad “the world doesn’t revolve around you.” The best way to cut through the hard truth of whatever life has handed you is to understand the control is not CHANGING what is rather the control is ACCEPTING what is.

You might have heard of radical acceptance? To accept something out of your control without judging It. Essentially, it is what it is.

Sometimes the money move is to just accept you have no control over what happened and move on. That doesn’t mean you agree with it. That doesn’t mean you like like it. It just means you accept that it happened. Once you accept it, the control shifts back to you.

NOW YOU GET TO DECIDE HOW TO RESPOND TO WHAT HAPPENED. Thats the best feeling to feel like you lost full control and then by your acceptance of what is gained full control back.

Today. Something is going to happen out of your control. It may be as simple as a stop light turning red or you learning of a cancer diagnosis. Whatever it is, remember “it is what it is” and also remember “i get to decide how to respond to what is.” 🤟 ❤️

WHO ARE WE?
Midwest Anxiety is a community based program for children, teens, and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, and more generalized problems involving negative thoughts, feelings, or behaviors.  Unlike traditional office-based psychotherapy, we work with people in “real life” situations in their natural environments (home, school, sporting events, etc). Instead of coming to us in a stuffy office, we come visit you in your world. We believe this “hands on” approach gives us the best opportunity to see your strengths and help you overcome your struggles in the environments you live.

Our mobility allows us to work with you in "real time."  No "see you in a couple weeks" for your next appointment.  We work in the moments (daily if needed) and in the environments of your struggles. Understanding in real time, in your natural environments, helps us implement step-by-step Cognitive Behavioral strategies to modify negative patterns as they arise.  So grab a snack, put your feet up, and will be over soon to do mental health differently ;)
