Senior actuarial Mathematics major here, I would like to correct you on your assumption that actuarial math is very specialized but in fact it's more broad than the general math majors. Depending on schools, actuarial math curriculum cosists of a mix of calculus 1-3, diffeq, linear algebra, proof-based math, financial math, probability and statistics, accounting, economics, finance, econometrics and programming. Though it emphasizes on financial Mathematics and statistics aspect of it, the overall knowledge you get can help you lend career in business and accounting. Or you can go ahead with graduate degree in economics or programming. As you mentioned earlier, SOA exams are extremely hard and most students don't end up becoming actuaries. The most common careers for acturial math majors are financial analyst, accountant and data analyst. So you see they are basically finance people with an extensive knowledge of Mathematics

Very informative and true. Math degree has a ton of potential, and great future prospects. However, it absolutely helps to have a career field in mind. Math is very broad but it qualifies for a lot of technical jobs. Focusing on one field choice makes this degree very great.

You can actually just straight up major in applied mathematics. This puts you adjacent to physics, statistics, data science, engineering, and even computer science.

Quantitative economics or econometrics is something I'll definitely consider! I'm already working on an economics major and I signed up to take extra math courses in the spring so I'm already on the right path!
