So many dream careers, so little time...

I wish I had this when I was in school, always loved math but could've had more guidance with career choices, ultimately became an accountant

I'm a Business Intelligence Analyst.

Looking at becoming a unkempt mathematician who begrudgingly works in Finance whilst slowly descending into madness working on some complex theory in my free time.

Sounds like a cool life story.

As an Econ graduate with an Accounting background am also interested in the field of data science and would love to persue a degree in business informatics. Tech knowledge is the new gold

Actuary gets # 1! 100% agree (but maybe I'm biased lol) ! Thanks for the video, Shane. 😀

Your videos have really inspired me to start looking around at getting other jobs or going back to school, despite already having an MS in biotech. Thanks for the great videos, keep them coming!

I like math, but in a way I also hate it. It's one of those things where both are possible at the same time.

IT/Cybersecurity Auditor here. Though my minors in IT and computer programming have helped more, the attention to detail and critical thinking skills I practiced for my math degree cannot be ignored as it is a crucial soft skill to have as an auditor.

If you have a math background but no IT/coding background, the more traditional financial auditing practice may fit better.

My boss, Director of Actuarial Analytics, has a BS in Math. We work in the healthcare analytics space which sounds like #2, #7 and #10 on your list. People on my team and adjacent teams typically have Economics, Statistics and Computer Science Degrees.

got my math degree back in 1984 and a master's later. It was interesting, but of no value except to go back to school to learn engineering or something. I read in wikipedia that the disabled scientist Hawking was considering majoring in mathematics. His father advised him not to pursue it because there were no jobs in the field, unless you taught. His father was correct and fortunately Hawking took his advice.

high frequency trading jobs and quants probably should have gotten a shout here as well

If you are willing to live in Korea, Japan, or China, math teachers at international schools make 100k+ usd. You need proper teaching license though, most foreign teachers don’t have that so they don’t get accepted to real international schools and make 35-45k at a training center or work at a public school with an international program.

If you’re not a genius would it be possible to find a successful and meaningful career in math? I’m average at math (I believe) but I love it.

Another GREAT one that everyone who is interested in math should consider is operations research analyst.

I love math but I didnt go for major because I figured I wouldnt be able to find a job other than teaching. But I also had a little math at uni (I went for Finance) and found it super boring as it was mostly math theory. The only interesting thing for me was statistics.

Median pay for accountants is incredibly generalized. $73K can be achieved in 2 years or less. After 5 years, you should be over $100K and can get up to or over $200K by years 10-12.
