This is the best ever doctor who episode, in my opinion. This scene is my second favorite, after the scene when Vincent is overhearing the museum curator rank him as the all-time greatest painter...showing him his value and worth. This scene is another great message of letting her know that she did make a difference...

One of the best episodes in Doctor Who history.

Every life is a pile of good things and bad things.
The good things don't always soften the bad things... but...
Vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things
Or make them unimportant.

In this scene, Amy learns a valuable lesson. Sometimes, you cannot save everyone. And I don't mean from the monsters, but sometimes from themselves. Sometimes it hurts just to carry on, no matter how much you try and heal them, but for a moment she made someone feel loved. Not simply by loving them, but by helping them to love themselves. Vincent was a tortured soul, struggling with his own personal demons, but like the curator said, he created some incredible work in trying to bring some joy into his life. His work has edified us on how we look at art and mental illness, and improve our understanding and appreciation of both.

As someone who lost someone very close to me from suicide this speech from the Doctor has helped me immensely. I felt so much guilt and sadness from not being able to do anything to change it. I went through so many scenarios of what I could have done to change it, (to rewrite time) in the end there was really nothing I could do, there was no way to change what had happened. The quote that "The bad things don't always spoil the good things and we definitely added to his pile of good things" kind of cured me in a way. Though there was no way to save him, at least I dulled the bad things, at least I made him feel better in a way, gave him good times before he went. Though I will carry on through life with a missing piece, I will at least always remember the person he was, and I will always remember that he was loved.

One of the best Doctor Who episodes I cried at Bill Nighy's 100 words, such an excellent description of Van Goph. Just brilliant....

What the Doctor says at 0:58 - 1:16 almost perfectly describes what it's like to have depression.

Richard Curtis handled this absolutely brilliantly, depression is a terrible thing and sadly it claims so many good people.

I hope this episode will never fail to make me cry, for if it does I must be dead inside

Seeing Starry Night and the Sunflowers is breathtaking, the vivid brush strokes and the painstaking detail is amazing, I'm so glad that Dr Who did this episode as it's become one of my favourites

The music when she's walking over is the reason I absolutely love this clip.

What makes this sadder is that when the doctor had left, Vincent probably thought he was going mad and nothing that the doctor showed him was real.

In an art history class and learning about van Gogh. Couldn't resist coming here and watching it. Long live Vincent van Gogh. :)

I have suffered from bipolar depression since I was a child. Nothing has made me feel more seen than this scene.

“A good act doesn’t wash out the bad, nor the bad the good”

But when the Doctor says it it sounds so much more comforting.
