0:26 Yes we can diagonalize it: it has (1, 0, 0) and (0, 0, 1) as 1-eigenvectors, and (1, 2^(-n)-1, 0) as 2^(-n)-eigenvector. It’s not simultaneous diagonalization, but it gives you the PDP^(-1) decomposition.

Seems like you might have wanted 2^(-1/n) in the middle instead.
