I see a lot of people debating wether or not to pony up the extra cash for the Model Y Performance. Aside from the cost alone, there are trade offs to each. In this video I give my answer to; should you buy the Tesla Model Y Performance or Model Y Long Range? Enjoy!

Don't forget the lowered suspension on the Performance model. I got the LR and added Acceleration boost.

LR AWD 0 to 60 is 4.8 seconds, unless you buy the Performance Boost Upgrade for $2K, which reduces 0 to 60 to 4.2 seconds. Also I’m told the PMY suspension is different as well. I just ordered a PMY to replace our 2020 LR AWD and ordered the TSportLine 18” tires and wheels. I should get better range, performance and no fears of curbs or potholes. WIN WIN.

Another difference. Performance rear tires are wider than long range. Performance tire sizes differ between rear pair and front pair.

I just bought a performance last week. I love it. Amazing car. I do worry about scratching the rims though.

I test drove a performance model with the new comfort suspension, and the ride was very smooth.

In the UK the MYP is £10K ($13k) above the MYLR which makes the choice different. I personal don’t see the need in the UK for the MYP. Long Range with 20inch Induction bring the difference down to £8k ($10k) and look similar. The additional speed isn’t worth the upgrade in my opinion. Also, UK inner Town roads are terrible so having 21 inch and lowered suspension probably isn’t the way to go in the UK.

Your point about the wheel was a great one if you upgrade to the 20” you only save $3, 000. But you get the car sooner if you go with the performance and quicker speed, better breaks and you don’t have to buy acceleration boost for $2000 if you choose too

My new YP has a firm but comfortable suspension. It’s probably been revised several times over the years. The new pricing makes Performance a great value! It drives like a sports car but comfortable and so practical. I’d say this is the best overall Tesla (including value)-I have an older performance S and standard X.

It’s funny how your video makes so much sense for people that get the LR with 20’ wheels ($2K), add fake aftermarket red caliper ($400 install included), add a rear spoiler ($150) and before you know it want to pay the extra $2K for the speed boost upgrade. Just get the MYP and all of that is built-in OEM!

Good practical advice. Yeah you're dropping $5k to make it look cooler and to feel a little bit more acceleration. I agree. For me, i feel money is just a little too tight to justify the spend. But I'm super thrilled to get my MYLR in a couple weeks!

Everyone missed the biggest reason. Get a performance with all its benefits, then get 19 or 18 inch rims and you will get the same range as a long range

Totally agree w all your points. Just took delivery of my MYP last week. I got the Midnight Silver Metallic color and am waaay impressed. This is the prettiest multifaceted dark silver I’ve seen. In the light you can see blue, sliver and dark gray shimmer and seems to hides dust as well. This car is a beast yet still perfect for my toddler. He loves when we step on it lol 😆

Im not a 0 to 60 sec driver anymore. So the speed doesn’t matter to me but I do like the look of the performance wheels. The other things can be put on cheap. Like brakes, Spoiler ect
