$35, 000+ is actually what a decent, new family vehicle going to cost you. I can guarantee that most people who own a new car like that are not making anywhere near that kind of money.

If everyone listened to this advice we wouldn’t have $45k base model cars

$847 a month is crazy. Even with 101k a year that isn’t good. Do the math on what 101k a year is per month and you tell me if you really think that’s feasible in an accounting perspective.

I make a solid chunk more than that and still feel uncomfortable making ANY car payments.

My guy … you realize that’s how much a standard(not even fully upgraded ) new Toyota Camry cost in today’s market .
I’m pretty sure majority of people aren’t making that

Could just buy a base model 3, and remove the autopilot you have selected. Drops price to 25.9k after rebates.

100k pretax = 50k after tax + max 401 k + insurance. So about 4k a month, and if you got a house mortgage, better stick with 2008 Honda Civic

Well. I agree with you except for one caveat. Here is what most people won’t account for in the internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles. Say you buy a Honda CR-V (which my wife has) for $30k and drive it for 125k miles. With gas + vehicle you’re looking at (125k miles/25 mpg = 5000 gallons -> 5000 x $3.50 per gallon = $17500). So you bought a Honda CR-V for $30k + $17.5k to run (not counting other maintenance). By your logic then you should be making about the same to afford a honda over time. Think of it as an ink printer. They can give you the printer for free, but you know that you gonna have to pay that ink as time goes on. With EV (Tesla), that “ink” becomes very affordable over time.

I’m good I’ll stick with my Chevy Cruze that I bought brand new without a loan. Lol.

Sad truth though…. It’s still worth what I paid in 2017 …. Lol

I got my mustang for $45, 000 and I make $58, 000 a year lol I’m making it

$647/month for just a car is NOT affordable. I won't even get into the additional $200 monthly.

A better rule if you make over the national average is do not go over half of what you make a year on the price of a car meaning if you make 100k you can afford a 50k car. The more money you make, the less bills weigh down on you

75 or 84 months isn’t a bad thing if you have good credit/interest rate and you can pay it off early with no penalty. It saves you on monthly costs
