Respect for saying you would pay instead of agreeing to hurt someone. AND here's hoping that no owner makes you make that choice again! Thanks!

when someone says "why are you getting all defensive?" ...that's them being defensive

Good for you! Even in cases when 99% of people are lying about an allergy, you still have to follow proper procedures so you don’t kill the other 1%.

I have a friend who could die from even a tiny bit of contamination, so thank you for fighting to save people like her.

For any sort of disability, remember: denying someone you THINK is lying does more damage than to just give them accomodations, because when you deny someone something they say they need, you're most likely going to be denying an actually disabled person.

That's actually terrifying. I'm not a celiac but I'm allergic to wheat (among other things) and it's so scary how many people are willing to lie to your face and say "yeah, this is safe for you to eat" when it isn't and could be deadly

i have no allergies but i am a nurse. i hope you called police or health inspector on that place

THANK YOU so much for actually standing up about the gluten free thing. I have celiac disease, and even the slightest bit of gluten contamination could put me MONTHS back in healing. Thank you!

In the US, "pay to fix" is illegal! I hope to god it is overseas too. Though obviously, this person didn't know a food inspector could shut them down for this! I'm a food service manager and in order to be in business, we need to take an exam and get a license on EXACTLY how dangerous this is!

Can I borrow that person? I’d like to have them take care of my brother for 12 hours after he accidentally ingests a minuscule amount of wheat. He’s not celiac, which is *definitely* a huge concern for cross contamination. He’s THAT allergic to wheat. Tiny amounts cause severe pain and vomiting for hours. Before he discovered wheat was the problem, he had times where he vomited blood. But yeah, go ahead and tell me how avoiding wheat/gluten is “just” trying to be healthy. Healthy isn’t just trying to weigh less or feel cute. Thanks for sticking up for what’s right, Alice!

As someone with celiac, this is why we don’t go out to eat often. It’s so hard to find places that don’t cross contaminate or just lie about stuff being gluten free.💔

I am not a celiac, nor deal with any gluten issues, but if someone is paying for a gluten free item, then they deserve exactly what they paid for. I don’t care why they are gluten free. They have an expectation based on what they are being told, and they are showing trust. Give people what they pay for. Thank you, Alice for championing not hurting people nor minimizing them.

That’s how I feel about waitresses not taking a request for diet soda seriously. A “regular” soda can land someone in the hospital, it’s no joke!

I appreciate this a lot. I’m celiac and so is my mother, and all of my coworkers get annoyed with gluten free orders. While I know many people do it for health, some of us do it out of necessity, and going the extra mile to ensure someone’s food is safe is the least we can do.

I'm very thankful to see somebody who cares out there!

I have really severe celiac disease, I can't eat out because people don't care enough about cross-contamination.

Even if any amount even the tiniest particle of gluten drops into my food I'm having issues for the next year. I am unable to digest food for a full month like it comes out the other side looking the same as it went in, I'm in severe pain and unable to absorb things like vitamins for a good few months and it takes me about a year to get to the point at which I can digest everything again.

Nah, that’s literally insane. Hope whoever was doing that NEVER works in any food service industry ever again. I mean what in the world, I hope they just don’t get hired anywhere, sounds like an awful person in general.

I really admire you for taking responsibility and standing up.

I remember when I got my first job in a commercial kitchen after school I saw a woman in the kitchen put the spoon in her mouth from the soup for the clients and placed it back in the pot and kept stirring. When I mentioned my concern everyone else said it was a regular occurrence and not a big deal. I could not stay after seeing and hearing that.

Things like this are questionable anyway but when you've gone to school for culinary arts and been taught with so much care it's really hard to hear certain things.

that's *_is_* such a terrible mindset, W alice for wanting to keep them safe! 😭

"they're a small enough amount of the population so we can ignore them" is such a dangerous mindset to have. It's used against groups like intersex, queer, and yeah even celiac people. Its just horrifying
