I was diagnosed with ADHD combined type at 33. This video made me tear up because I identify a lot with Brianne. I managed to get a 3.2 GPA in high school, but barely graduated from college while self medicating with heavy marijuana use. By age 13, I really just thought I was a bad/defective person. The feeling of an hour class feeling like 8 hours.. I just thought everyone felt like that. Everyone else seemed so much more disciplined and no matter how hard I tried...I just couldn't be like the "normal" kids. I had my son at 24, and 4 years, I lost my marriage, job, home, and any self esteem I may have still had. My self worth was wrecked. At 33, I was severely depressed and had generalized anxiety.

Now...at almost 35 and after finding the right diagnosis, along with finding the right dose and type of medication, I'm literally rebuilding my life. Thank you for this video!

This man has life changing advice and he is out here teaching us for free how to change our brain health. Yes it’s incredibly pricey but I believe his heart is good and like someone already said he wants to help…how many free hours has he sat and taught to people who don’t have access to scans or doctors in his clinics? Seems like this guy is doing all he can to get the info out into the world even at the risk of being an outcast in his profession. That is a courageous kind hearted man. Many blessings to dr amen and his family for all the work they have done for the rest of us!

I have to say after reading several of Dr. Amen's books and watching a ton of his Podcasts and Youtube videos, I truly believe that he wants to help people live their best life. I'm so happy that Daniel Amen decided to become a psychiatrist and bring awareness to brain spect imaging. It's so TRUE, how can you know unless look?? In my opinion, brain imaging should be a common test that is done to evaluate overall health- especially if someone is having problems emotionally, or with headaches, possible concussions, learning problems, substance abuse, etc... It should be common sense!

When he said "I had a spirtual crisis over this child". 😆 But on a serious note...you can tell how much he loves his children and helping others is his calling.

Such helpful information! Can't wait until this is taught fully in teacher education and more widely as general information so that people can seek the help that is available to those that struggle and suffer so unnecessarily.

I love his vulnerability here! I can just imagine how he felt being looked at by his community as a failure as eing able to control his daughter 😂😂. Parents get SOOOO much blame for everything their kids do or dont do, I feel so validated in my struggles! Thank you Dr Amen for this video ❤

Thank you Dr. Amen, this video gave me hope for myself. I have been struggling with all of these things myself. I envision greatness in my career and I am always trying to motivate amd push myself to be organized and on top of everything, but sometimes I have a task and I just can't even get myself started, I procrastinate and I get myself worked into a frenzy for no apparent reason and I end up falling behind on things. I have been watching your videos and things are making sense I relate to your daughter Breann!

I am 35, newly diagnosed with ADD. I relate so much to your story about Brianne. It parallels my own life so much! I wept watching this video. I have found life so hard up until now. I am awaiting my first prescription of Ritalin and hoping that finally my life can truly begin to be enjoyable, rather than just survival.

46 years old, diagnosis in process, I cry because I laugh ! so much ! Because... this messy room that you don't even know how it is possible to get a room like that, the class all in order, except... 1. you describe it so well. Thank you. It's just so normal for me that I never thought I could have AD(H)D (I don't drive 200km/h), so we need this point of view : saying it's not usual, not normal, but without any blame. 💫 thank you thank you !

Dr. Amen, thank you for sharing your knowledge and sharing your very personal family stories. I'm a 52 year old female and have struggled for many many years with depression and some anxiety. I've went to a few psychologists and a psychiatrist over the years until they drained me. This last Dr tried me on a few medications and only one helped for a short time but I feel like the exercise I was doing was the key. When I quit things went down hill again. Now I truly believe that my diet plays a big roll so I've been changing that but it's very difficult fighting a sugar addiction. I've had suicide attempts I hate that I'm not consistent with anything in my life and I hate that I can't compete tasks or follow thru with plans. I hate that I leave messes everywhere just to have to clean up later. I was a terrible mom and now I'm just a terrible enabler to two adult kids with addictions. I fear I'll be there same to my beautiful grandchildren. I love till it hurts. I'm doing no one any good. Can you please recommend a doctor similar to your ways for me, please? Your story about your daughter made me cry because that was me, I felt and experienced exactly what she did. Thanks for listening. God bless. Cheryl

Thank you so much for sharing. As a parent w a child w Add...I've felt nuts and like a terrible parent. This was encouraging to hear your frustration as a parent. Feeling not so alone.

What a powerful video. Dr. Amen has a dry sense of humor. I think he should do stand-up on parenting. Few people can capture the ups and downs like he can. Now of course, he has sold me on brain scans! 😂
