2003 Clone Wars GENERAL GRIEVOUS Black Series Unboxing & Review!

I just got the 2003 Clone Wars BLACK SERIES GENERAL GRIEVOUS and it's a bit of a disappointment. Mostly due to the head reuse, the packaging is AWESOME and very nostalgic for those who watched the 2003 Star Wars The Clone Wars show.

Something to know about the Black Series: it is notorious for reuse, particularly in retail exclusives. There are some amazing figures, but not many are reuse free, which leads to some glaring inaccuracies, such as imperial Crosshair, clone commando, or the many boba fett variants, among many more. While this does keep the cost relatively low, black series is not the hyper accurate star wars action figure line, again with reuse along with many repaints. They fall into the pitfalls that lego does, more so with stock and availability. That being said I own a bunch, but thought it important to know

As cool as it is to see 2003 Grievous back, I hate that they skimped on his cape. A massive detail that added contrast to the design in the 2003 series was the red inner lining of the cape, completely missing here.

Correction: The red lined cape was only in the final chapter of the clone wars miniseries, his cape was completely white in his first appearance. Still the cape here seems kinda cheap looking.

Hasbro reuses alot of parts whenever they can. Plus with most of the figures that come from animated shows they take them and put it into a more realistic style to fit with movie figures. TBS version is a little small for the scale, not to mention the difficulty standing up.

The thing is, these figures aren't bad. They just aren't accurate which I'm fine with. I don't like stylized stuff when Black Series is supposed to be accurate, but also realistic.

Low-key a little disappointed they didn't do the complete body style the 2003 version had, that would've been dope, glad I got the 03 versions when I did cause now they're really expensive

Being a repaint of the original grievous figure, it’s obviously a little bit lacking. But the colors on the figure really make the lightsabers pop imo, and I wish I had gotten a pre order of this one. I only got Fordo pre ordered, but I’ll definitely pick up grievous and Windu if they go in stock. Also glad to see more mandr collects! I’ve been missing this channel because I like your review style, it’s just nice since I collect more black series than Legos.

So the thing about the black series is they want to stay uniform, so all animated characters are made to look as if they were live action, the black series will never make a stylized animated looking figure. They also are a huge company and they do a lot of re use so that they can give us amazing new sculpts for the main line, so basically any exclusive is going to be heavy re use but the main line figures are always a ton of new sculpt and amazing figures in general.

Hey Ryan, quick things to know when it comes to hasbro's Star Wars figures:

-Anything that's exclusive to a store will rarely have any new parts made for that particular character (anything that has a large amount of new parts is always released widely).
-Hasbro is pretty lazy sometimes and they'll always find a way to save money at every glance
-The distribution of hasbro's action figures is insanely laughable
-You can try and buy some claw stands to hold your figures in place when reviewing.
-Sites like Amazon and Walmart DO NOT care about the condition a package is being delivered, so expect damaged boxes from those sites. (good news for you, it's harder to break 6 inch figures but for us 3.75 fans we are F'd).

The packaging looks great! The figure itself isn't bad but could have been slightly better (especially at that price point). Nice to see a vid on the collects channel though!

Black series tends to redesign animated characters to fit with live action releases even if they don't already have an existing figure to re-use. The Rebels cast all fit right in with OT characters.

For the best 2003 Clone Wars Grievous, get the original figure from 2003 or the one with the red lining inside from a 2005 Clone Wars toy boxset. Both are solid figures with limited poses but that is accurate to Clone Wars microseries Grievous. And that figure because of the limited poses, it stands fine even without putting Grievous on the stand included with it

Try cutting the bottom of the clear package around its shaping up and to the side creating a flap. This way you dont have to rip the packaging from its side and can slide the figure out through the bottom with little noticable damage.
