I love how he always says " I know it sounds kinda weird" when he say's something that should be completely self evident and not weird at all but people somehow always miss it.

this part of the stream was so freeing and took a HUGE weight off of me. it defeated the perfectionist mindset i have. the “so what if i have 9/10 projects” released SO much of my stress. and then i was like “oh yeah i guess i really don’t need to finish everything perfectly 120%🤔” i love it cause it made me stop worrying and made me start having fun with creating videos.

I'll prove Dr K wrong by skipping page 1 in every book I read

This is how I approach reading a 1000 page book:
- Finish page 1: only 1000x more
- Finish page 2: only 500x more
- Finish page 3: only 333x more
- Finish page 4: only 250x more
- Finish page 5: only 200x more
- etc

unfinished projects = halfway done projects
unfinished =not finished YET

It's these small perspective changes that help so much. You're like a wizard man, this is so good.

This is honestly such an important video for people to watch. I started putting out songs (roughly) once a month since the onset of the pandemic, and I am no big shot or anything, but in my scene people are asking me all the time how I've continue to put so many songs out. The thing a lot of people don't realize is that many of my songs are old (to me, anyway). My first single that I released March 2020 was written, in large part, during 2013. The song I put out most recently was written in 2015/2016. My next single, coming August 20, was written in 2017. I fought self-doubt and confidence issues for YEARS and though I always dreamed of putting my music out, I made excuses. Nobody will like it, I don't have bandmates, etc. But one good thing that finally came of these years of self-doubt is I have a TON of finished songs and nearly-finished songs.

Something that a lot of people who struggle with motivation don't realize is that the successful person you see and wish you could be likely had thousands of trial and error moments, moments of self-doubt, and misfires. In my case, I faced years of that before I felt like I could finally do it, and I'm still learning song by song. All these missteps are the things that make the person into who they are today.

And if you're a musician or writer, NEVER throw away your ideas and drafts. Seriously. Some of my best songs have been rewritten tunes from 2014. Hold onto your creativity. There is value there.

God, as someone who has *exactly* this modus operandi, this is such, *such* a relief to hear. Now instead of bashing myself for the piles of projects, I'm proud of them, and triply proud of the ones I did manage to finish. Pardon me as I give myself time for a short cry of relief.

I'm energized to start new ones. Lots of them. Maybe finish some.

It's really cool to hear about your unfinished projects that sat around for years, but you came back to them. I have notebooks full of video game ideas and I know I can make them one day

Remember: You don't climb a mountain by taking one giant leap towards the top. You climb it by taking several small steps towards the top until you have reached it.

As someone who creates a whole lot of orchestral covers, I needed to hear this. Creating an arsenal of unfinished projects without feeling like I have to finish them until I actually need them seems great for motivation, I'll give it a shot.

"The overwhelming part comes from the goals" . . . pure genius.

In other words, a project isn't meant to be finished until you decide when it's supposed to be finished. And that decision is defined by when you feel like working on it

Hearing that the guide to meditation was started in 2005 is one of the most liberating things I've ever heard

This made me feel a lot better. I have this problem when it comes to games. There's probably like over 100 games in my steam library that I never finished and I always beat myself up about it, but the reality is... it just doesn't matter. So what if I never finished them? Most of them just weren't really that engaging. There's nothing unique or interesting about them. And if there are a few diamonds in the rough, I can go back and finish them later. Not every game NEEDS to be finished just for the sake of finishing it. Why waste your time playing a game that you don't even enjoy just so that you can say you beat it?

I needed to hear this. I was giving myself anxiety about how I just start ideas in art and never finish anything so I have nothing to show for it. I needed this reminder, thank you :)

$20 for 16 years of writing, knowledge and experience in meditation to impart on me with little experience in meditation is a pretty damn good deal.

Exactly what I needed to hear as a creative minded person who has a lot of unfinished writing, music, art, etc... Looking around it all gives me anxiety and worry about completing everything. It's OK not to finish everything is the mindset I'm slowly adopting to change my "I must finish everything and it must be perfect" mindset that can stop us from even starting.

Being mindful also to be present minded is also a big game changer while working also. Or really doing most things really.

He’s right you know, as someone who has been actually working on unfinished projects, knowing that you’ve finished another part of the project, as opposed to knowing that you are only 40% through the project makes the project more enjoyable and less stressful.
