New gameplay footage has been showcased for FromSoftware's Elden Ring, providing an extensive look at the game's mechanics, combat and exploration. There was quite a bit to see, both in terms of things that we're seeing action for the first time and brand-new details.

I believe that FromSoftware had mentioned that Elden Ring would be a more accessible game compared to Dark Souls in terms of the amount of options and ways to tackle different tasks but still retaining that high difficulty.

The game changer is that Elden Ring is open world meaning that you can basically fuck around with them and fight enemies how ever you want.

This game does look fantastic. Biggest difference is that I hope it doesn't tie you into a certain way of playing and the freedom of the open world is exactly that. So many games claim to be open world, but then tie you into being a certain level to use weapons or whatever it might be, and then this forces you to do things in a general order rather than set you free to play the way you want to play. Open world shouldn't mean simply a bigger map, but should offer the player flexibility in choosing their own route in how they want to play

This game looks so awesome. Everything looks great. Just I really hope they maintain that soulsbounre sense of exploration despite the open world. I don't know how they'll do it but I have my faith in Miyazaki

Only two problems.

One. Devs didn't seem to realise important aspect of sekiro's combat that made it in a way superior to dark souls combat.
In dark souls you could roll roll hit hit roll entire game.
In sekiro you couldn't deflect deflect hit hit deflect all bosses because of perilous attack.
Three types of these attacks each had one or more needed approches that differed from other two types.
And altho you had a short indicator shortly before perilous attack occured you didn't know which of three it was.
For thrust you had to perfectly deflect, mikiri counter or mist raven in time.
For sweep you had to jump and theb could've gomba stomped boss for extra posture damage or do a high monk combat art from ground or air for even more damage, or simply jump over and attacks with sword during descend or mist raven.
For grab you had to dodge or jump away or use umbrella.
For on rare ocassions there is lightning attacks which you had to jump then press block at right time in air to block some small damage and redirect it with attack mid air immedietly. Fail timed block and take bit of damage then redirect it with attacks but a bit delay. Fail to redirect it before hitting ground and get huge damage and stun.
Use mist raven stationery then attack when it teleports you in air for no damage taken and easier redirect.
Or use sakura dance combat art in time to redirect it with more power and option to strike mid air with prosthetic tool as well.
Not to mention all the combat arts, prosthetic tools, attack, block, deflect, dodge, jump, gomba stomp, mikiri counter, piercing thrust attack, etc...that combined together and used against bosses which all had some perilous attacks that required to act in different way; it made for excellent, fun, adrenaline pumping combat.
Dark Souls combat is great too. Also lots of tools at disposal but it doesn't change the fact you can just roll around while attacking in between. For whole game.

Two. Many of us would love to just casually chill with a friend in the game and have No desire to be bullied by some tryhard pvp kids eith min max build and then lose all of our hard earned level up souls.
Or worse yet get our hundreds of hours deleted because a hacker joined our gameand corrupted our save files.

Feel free to calm me a dumb down below. It won't change the fact that they should've tweaked combat a decent bit so it isn't just dark souls 4 with sneak, horses and open world.

Hopefully we have to use jump to dodge some attacks how it's use to trigger heavy attacks that break stances.
Hopefully blocking with a sword a milisecond before enemy hits rewards us similar to sekiro.
Hopefully running circles around bosses with high protecting shield up and just hitting roll attack roll over and over isn't as viable and we are encouraged to block, deflect, jump, perry, use magic, use skills, etc...
Hopefully there are alternatives like that that are highly encouraged to be used.
I rememeber seeing in gameplay trailer player do some kind of weird quick crouch into fast slide type of dodge when that giant (wolf?) knight does a red ground wave projectile attack. So maybe that's a dodge skill or that's how fast dodge looks. Hopefully we Can dodge that attack like so, just by ducking under. Hopefully that jump afterwards was crucial do avoiding damage. Hopefully...

I am really looking forward to this game and I know I will love it but that still doesn't changed how I feel about what I wrote above.

I replayed sekiro over 50 times.
Love it. Playing those overhaul mods. I played lots of dark souls 3 too and like it a lot.
Hopefully Bloodborne gets ported to PC soon too.
But I was really hoping combat would be spiced up a decent bit like in bloodborne or sekiro.
Maybe not complete overhaul but at least a gkod amount of change.
Hopefully I am wrong and Elden Ring won't be just roll hit roll with some magic and skills in between to dish higher damage with FP.

I can see ONE BIG design problem with this game.
If the co-op is just like in the other entries, then whenever the host opens a chest, the visitor will not be able to loot it.
This was ok in the previous titles being linear. So after a friend helped me kill a boss and get the loot for myself, I could have join his session to help b.get the same loot.
But Elden Rings being such a big open world, I could spend hours playing with a friend of mine, exploring etc, finding an dungeon, opening the chest at the end of it. And I can not loot it because it's my friends session.
But we just spent hours playing together.
Now I have to go back to my game, and repeat everything that I've done with my friend just to get to the same chest again?!
And I expect my friend to help me repeat everything for hours again ?!
This would be horrible.
This is the difference between a linear level and an open world game.
This must be addressed.
