I have had a day planner since I was a teenager, but a few years ago I put up another calendar on a bulletin board in the dining room for when recycling goes out, sport games, late night meetings, summer job meetings, special occasions. I put $20 a week under a little dragon figure on my desk for my husband’s weekly gas $ because cash is cheaper by his work and his Prius only uses $20 of gas week with 2 hours driving to/from work a week. I keep a list on the bulletin board so so when items are low or used up EVERYONE in the house is supposed to write it on the list for shopping or I won’t buy them on my every 2 week trip to the store. Laundry is individual. I gave my kids their own baskets at 😊12 years old and taught them to wash their own clothes so they’d be ready for college.

So glad you plan date nights with intention! I’m 60, and my “kids” are in their 30’s. Our weekly date nights were sacred. During our early lean years, we usually paid more to the sitter than we spent on the dates. But that’s fine. Even a fast-food dinner with uninterrupted conversation was a joy and so important. You’re doing great!

We’ve been using cash envelope system for over 10 years and we love it! The way that I find it more simple is I have 4 main envelopes in my purse “food”, “supplies”, “going out”, “clothes”. I fill those with cash every month. Things like gas and bills, we use our bank account for. You can’t really make yourself spend less on those things so I don’t find those need a cash envelope. And that has worked perfectly!

First, I’m a new subscriber and really enjoy your content. I’m an early retired 59 year old housewife. We have a large garden for our suburban property so perhaps that’s why YT suggested your channel. Anyway, as a former Executive Assistant to high level executives, my heart just sang about your “systems”. Your home basket and clipboards had me smiling. I try to structure my days and my home like I’m running a business. My husband and I joke about our titles, CFO and CEO, and after we have discussed how to work together on a project, finances or chore, we adjourn our meetings, but not before first reading the minutes of our last meeting 😂. We don’t keep minutes, of course but I’m telling you as one ages, it’s not a bad idea. It takes a lot of energy to run a home, be a supportive wife, attentive mom and be organized at the same time.
