Modern life is cluttered with stuff, social connections, ideas, and stimuli. Worries and wishes fill our minds, and we’re always restless because we fail to distinguish the forest from the trees. When immersed in complexity, it’s difficult to see the essential. “The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak,” stated painter Hans Hofmann. This video explores how to simplify your life.

In the words of the late Alan Watts. “The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

“Simplify your life. Don’t waste the years struggling for things that are unimportant. Don’t burden yourself with possessions. Keep your needs and wants simple and enjoy what you have. Don’t destroy your peace of mind by looking back, worrying about the past. Live in the present. Simplify!” – Henry David Thoreau

I have no friends at all, and I love it. I keep interaction with people in my daily life to the absolute minimum, and feel very happy about it. There are two things I find extremely stressful, people and noise.

When covid started I moved back to my parents home, I donated all my furniture and belongings to a charity and I've never felt more free and happy

Humanity has a knack for making the worlds simplicities into complexities. It’s partly our strength and weakness

i remember when minimalism blew up about 5ys ago, i used to watch so many youtubers with this lifestyle, the ways they would avoid owning more than what they really needed. to this day i still kept that mentality, and you wouldn't believe the amounts of cash i save now and how good it makes me feel for the environment...

"Simplicity is best served with the coolness of a tranquil mind." Such a beautifully worded statement!

““Overthinking, worrying, and ruminating make uncomplicated things complicated. also it often makes problems much more significant than they are. Problems originate in the mind not in the outside world.“

Thank u 🙏🏾 this is it! This is the secret. Keep an uncluttered mind that’ll inevitable influence the outside world. I feel like I’ve been doing it backwards this whole time. Thank u thank u thank u

You have to know what makes you happy. I love plants, I am happy buying a new plant and taking care of it and watching it grow. It makes me happy for years since the purchase. I love to be surrounded by them at home and to see them every day. I have to admit though the most happy I am when I grow a plant from a cutting from a friend 😄

Excellent. Been minimizing for decades now.
The World is always Perfect. It is the mind that tries to make it NOT so.

The biggest thing I've realized lately is that the more money you have, the more money you will want to spend.
So you never really feel like you have enough.
That's why I really like the idea mentioned in this video of learning how to be satisfied with what you already have.
This is especially true of us in the first world.
We get carried away by envy and comparison and believe the lie that other people live happier lives than us because they have all this stuff, that they are "living the dream".
But the fact is that the only reason they have all this stuff is because they are stressed out all the time trying to maintain their excessive lifestyles.
And if they stopped pushing to get more and more stuff then they would realize that happiness was already within their reach.

The irony is that people in the third world that come to live in the first world have a tendency to become like this the most.
They have lived their whole lives in poverty feeling envy for those in the first world who have everything they need.
So when they come to live here and get a job, they carry their envy with them and buy into the lie that they need more and more stuff.
Their family back home wonder why they are so stingy in sending money.
But the family doesn't realize that the "cost of living is much higher" where we live.
You never feel like you have enough.

In this day and age, my life has become complicated, especially my social and digital life. I always wondered how to simplify it somehow. Thank you for making this video!

That last point is really true. It's not about simplifying all aspects of life just for its own sake. Rather, the point is for a more tranquil life. Thanks for the video.
