The actual text of the law states: It is illegal for any person to paste, post, paint, print, nail, or attach or affix by any means whatsoever any handbill, poster, notice, sign, advertisement, sticker, or other printed material upon any curb, gutter, flagstone, tree, lamppost, awning post, telegraph pole, telephone pole, public utility pole, public garbage bin, bus shelter, bridge, elevated train structure, highway fence, barrel, box, parking meter, mailbox, traffic control device, traffic stanchion, traffic sign (including pole), tree box, tree pit protection device, bench, traffic barrier, city-owned grassy area adjacent to a street, hydrant, or other similar public item on any street. There is a rebuttable presumption that the person whose name, telephone number, or other identifying information appears on any handbill, poster, notice, sign, advertisement, sticker, or other printed material on any item or structure is in violation. Every handbill, poster, notice, sign, advertisement, sticker, or other printed material shall be deemed a separate violation. Anyone found to have violated this provision, in addition to any penalty imposed, shall also be responsible for the cost of the removal of the unauthorized postings.

I lived 16 years in NYC and I never saw that law enforced once. Not even in September 2001 when the city was plastered with the faces of the missing.

you won’t find a light post or telephone in nyc that isn’t plastered with posters or advertisements and is not a high priority for city workers.

There are many laws in New York, that are enforced very selectively. Maybe you don’t spend time in NYC, but there are posters everywhere and they mostly stay up for a very long time. If posters are being removed, that’s an affirmative choice by somebody.

Bro i grew up in NYC and lived and worked their 42 of my 46 years those. They rarely clean off poles. Posters will usually disintegrate from weather before they clean those poles. So yes its probably a half truth. Someone more likely demanded they be torn down by calling 311.

All of the sudden when these posters appeared, new yorkers started caring about how clean their telephone poles are? You cannot act like there is no political views involved.

The question at issue is not really what the law is; rather, it’s whether the law is enforced uniformly. If so, Ryan’s point is a valid one. If that same set of workers, however, allowed BLM posters and Free Palestine posters, and Occupy Wall Street posters, and other left-leaning posters to remain up, Ryan’s point is invalid. Where I live, there is a definite bias for leftist messaging and against right-wing messaging.

The best part about this comment section is it takes all of ten seconds on Google Street View to see that yes, NYC actually does take down most if not all signs posted on poles.

Logical flaw here is that you are framing this as if NY will remove all posters. I guess a better worded orignal tweet would have been "why is NYC uniquely targeting..."

this nyc parks employee is my former co worker. He handled this so professionally! Go Lenny!

I think what she's pointing out is the double standard of the enforcement of that law

Meanwhile the parks department has said they did not ask this employee to do this and told him to stop. And all the poles are covered in all sorts of posters including city events, piano lessons and lost pets.

It’s Tic Toc. Any one using Tic Toc as a valid information source really shouldn’t be making any important decisions .

People getting their news from TikTok? That's worse than going to FB for your news.

Okay but also it's NYC...pretty sure you can walk 10 feet in any direction and find a lamp post or electrical pole that is completely plastered with posters for missing pets, for sale notices, etc.

Also let's not pretend that people removing missing posters of Israelis isn't a thing, because it is.

How is posting a video and asking a question “disinformation”? They literally didn’t provide any “information” in any way other than the video.

I'm relieved to discover that "Libs of TikTok is the actual Name of the Channel. I thought you were using Lib like a slur for a second 😅

Thank goodness the telephone poll ordinances are being enforced in NYC.
