Hi Lonnie, have to point out that "Work Smarter, Not Harder" is one of the all time best tips I've ever heard! Rock On!

I do remember a photo of an elk hunter when I lived in Colorado. He was lying dead from exposure at the base of a tree. He still had matches, cordage, a compass and space blankets in his pack. He had no idea how to use them. Your vid's and YouTube really can educate and save lives. Keep up the good work.

Your teachings are worth their weight in gold! Keeping the core warm is critical; I nearly died from hypothermia decades ago. It's a easy way to go, almost euphoric...I'll just close my eyes for a minute....You can be in danger and not even realize. The straw is brilliant; but more importantly it shows what using your functioning brain can do. Thank you for what you do! WARM greetings from TOronto.

apparently nothing new…but never harms paying attention to sound advice, specially from Lonnie!
Like muscular memory for gestures, understanding and repeating is key for effortless recall later when needed in a stressful situation…!
Thanks Lonnie, my regards to Connie and a pat to the dog.
From across the Greta Pond… hug!

Oh Lonnie, excellent info as always, but my favorite thing about this video was the old lady bonnet and the scarecrow stuffing! It was priceless!
Thank you for a really good laugh 😂

Great video Lonnie! In addition to providing insulation, the act of gathering the straw or leaves will help you get warmed up. And as you basically said, function trumps form every time when it comes to survival. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Lonnie. Another great couple of tips. I like to carry a big scarf called a shemagh. Like a bandana but fits around the beard better!  I'm loving your channel.

Thank you for this video Sir. I learned that it does not matter what others think about us when we do the wise thing.

You are an AWESOME TEACHER!  I ALWAYS learn something useful whenever I watch your videos.  I look forward to the series on shelter building.  Thanks for sharing.

Good video as always that straw trick could seriously save someones life. Would carrying some kind of torch work (not 'torch' in the british sense like flashlights but an actual wood burning torch!). It may take more work then its worth, just an idea.

The straw and moss trick was new to me, thank you. (But we only have dry leaves in early summer where I live, otherwise it rains too often.)
So thank you.
And if you risk hypothermia and still worry about how you look, you’re called a “fashion victim” as far as I know it. Really.

Great advice and tips on cold weather. I was only taught the paper or plastic modes since I'm in a smaller city in my area. You are a great teacher. Thanks for all the effort and time you put into these posts.

love your vids brother. for some reason you remind me of some of my kin!
it never ceases to amaze me how many people wander into situations that they have no business being in.
when i was around that kids age, i got turned around in the desert in utah for a bit.  i didn't panic, and relied on my training to get me and my buddy out... who i had to constantly pacify to keep him from panicking (city boys!)...  as a forest dwelling northerner i was out of my element (which is why i got turned around in the first place), but i was not unprepared or unskilled so i got us both out safely, easily,   and unscathed... we also came out of it with a great adventure story to tell...
however if i were unprepped and had zero outdoor skills... our skeletons may never have been found.. and if that was indeed the case, then i think my ghost would have gladly accepted the Darwin award... because i would have deserved it!
i wish people would think twice before walking into the wild unskilled and with no prep... for one it would save a lot of resources and not put other people into dangerous situations trying to rescue them... and it would also keep the wild more pristine for guys like us to explore and play in! :)
keep them vids coming brother! take care!
