I don’t judge a single soul who’s living like this anymore. I used (in my much younger teenage days) but at 41 after getting out and living life I now simply respect the creativity and ingenuity of people struggling HARD. Glad you’ve found a way to stay warm.

I remember when i had to do this in jeans, double tshirt, double hoodie and big coat wrapped in 2 fleece blankets in a car with no battery in one of the worst chicago winters. Never pray anyone feel that type of cold where you gotta wonder if you’ll wake up in the morning, hope you stay safe brother!

This helps me not feel ashamed. We are all in struggle together. I'm sorry you had to go through this. You're much younger but then again homelessness doesn't discriminate.

Been living in my car and it can get soooo cold, even with multiple layers and sleeping bag, but still so grateful to at least have a car for shelter..

They make sleeping bags rated down to -20F that don't require a heater or battery pack. I slept in my van off and on for year and spent plenty of nights below freezing, down to single digits with no issues.

It has a section designed to cover your head, which is necessary when sleeping in such low temperatures. And regardless of how cold it was it was always toasty in my sleeping bag. Now, waking up in the morning and willing yourself out of the sleeping bag to get dressed is a whole different story. Going from a warm bed straight into below freezing is not a fun experience. 😅

when i was trucking i didn't have extra money to run the engine all night to i spent 50 bucks on the best sleeping bag walmart had. it was rated for -2f. me and the cat spent a lot of night snug as a bug in a rug.

If it helps anyone at all, I remember my friend said he had a gym membership where he paid $10-20 a month for access of locker, shower, sometimes free pizzas. I have confirm from other homeless that this is true. I hope this advice helps even alittle! ❤ Your church might be able to help too. Stay safe out there and don’t do this all alone, seek help please~

Blessings of warmth, comfort and a new place to all who currently don't have one. Especially to those who don't even have a car or truck. ❤

In the city of Los Angeles, they have "safe sleep" parking lot programs and you get a case manager to help find you more permanent housing for low or no income such as General Relief etc.

I’m 22 and living out of my car now bc of a lot of reasons. Seeing that this has happened to so many others is unfortunate but also makes me feel less ashamed for being in said situation.

Good idea. I hope you normally have all your windows covered too. I'm staying in my car. Been 3 months. I have 8 more days til I move into a place. I've always had my windows covered. Helps with keeping heat in as well. Heated sleeping bag is a great idea.

Dude you’re smart enough to know all this, don’t know your circumstances but praying you get a job to support yourself & rent at least a room. Praying the best for you.

There will be more and more of this going on with the housing shortages

From experience, newspapers are really good insulation. Have a few to put under the sleeping bag.

The only time I ever slept in a car, I had a nightmare someone broke in, only to wake up to some guy peering in my window! I could never do it again. You guys stay safe!
