Was really hoping PC VR headsets would come down in price, but it only seems to keep going up. Plus, the Rift S has an LCD instead of OLED, which means poorer color and contrast, and lower refresh rates.

Meanwhile, you can get PSVR for $250 now, which has some great VR exclusives such as RE7, Deracine and Astro Bot. I'll stick with PSVR for now.

I'm getting the oculus quest! I don't have a high end PC nor do I have the money to buy it. The quest will be my first experience in vr!

FFS, just add a VRLink port to the Quest so we could use it wired as well as wireless when we want.
Then the onboard snapdragon would only have to manage tracking when running in wired mode

Quest all the way just need a release date and maybe a carying case option that neatly fits the controllers and headset and charges them all when not in use

Already have the Rift, I do not like the S design at all and lower hz??? Maybe I'll just get the quest for a more laid back experience when I dont want to use my PC

Comparing these two is like comparing apples to oranges. They aren’t the same at all in any way except they use the same controller and insight tracking.

Oculus quest won’t have steamVR support while rift S will because it’s PC based which means you’ll have a whole lot more titles on the Rift S. The quest isn’t tethered so obviously it’ll need battery and charging time where rift S won’t.

Comparing rift to rift S would be a whole lot better. But it still won’t replace rift

Had to bring the prior Oculus Rift back because the 2 yr old gaming laptop was off by a minor version number for its graphics card meeting prerequisites. It would seem to me this preview left that out as a major detail in making the decision. The total cost for Rift S is not $399 if it requires upgrading your PC/laptop first. If the graphics are only slightly better then, if PC prerequisites are a concern, the Quest would seem like the better choice.

Quest is revolutionary for mobile VR gaming, getting that is a no brainer. Oculus Rift S is a letdown and not what most CV1 Rift owners wanted for an upgrade, it's more of a downgrade minus inside-out tracking and that's only if it tracks as good as a 3 sensor setup. There are a lot of differences between Rift-S and Quest too, which makes Quest a better headset. The Quest has OLED screens like Rift CV1, and Rift S uses a cheap LCD and not only that but its just one screen instead of one screen for each eye. Quest has manual IPD adjustment like the Rift CV1, Rift S uses an automatic software IPD adjustment that excludes 30% of the population from being able to use it. Quest has an awesome similar baseball cap style HMD like Rift CV1 which is glued to your face and you forget you have it on, and Rift S has that cheap Windows Mixed Reality look to it, and while some say its more like the HALO style HMD of the PSVR that headset isn't built for room scale VR and wobbles all over the place which the Rift S will also do and has been proven on video. I want to love the Rift S, but it's just a letdown but I do want to try it and I hope it proves me wrong. But with a computer connected HMD, we want high-end specs which they didn't seem to provide.

Can you play Steam Games on the Quest? I think the S looks like a better product but rather OLED then LCD... I don't understand why they chose LCD over OLED for the S.

standalone is a game changer. Maybe not this version because it's not great. Once standalone gets real good as far as specs and the price goes down. VR will be more mainstream. Right now it's so niche because of needing space/wires/high end pc.
