Dr. Jerry Williams of Urgent Care 24/7 discusses what to do if you are stung by a stingray.

Stingray stings are common along the coastal waters and many stings are inadvertently caused by people stepping on a stingray or by fisherman trying to remove one from their hooks.

A stingray sting can cause an allergic reaction or shock, if either one of these outcomes happen you need to immediately seek medical attention.

If you happen to get stung in the neck, face, or torso you might need a CT Scan. For your extremities you will need to keep an eye on them as the sting is a puncture wound and can become painful and infected.

Good advice...If you catch a sting ray. Use one foot to step on its tail and try to take hook out.. if it's a big one, you're gonna need 2 people for this process. Usually they swallow the hook, so you have to cut the line.

You’d think you’d give more info faster- considering this is what people come to when stung.

I know this video is a year old but I was stabbed by a cownose ray this past Saturday that was the most intense debilitating pain I have ever been through went all the way in my forearm and had to have emergency surgery to save my arm and go back tomorrow to see if I need more surgery or if they can sew the incisions back together

Thank you Dr. Williams. Is there anything that a person can carry with them while out in the water to help him or herself or another person who is stung. I've heard that you can hear a person yell in excruciating pain "a mile away" when stung. I would never walk without waders while fishing off a boat.
