As Whitney Hanson said in one of her poems
"I wish we treated broken hearts like broken bones
And send ambulances for broken souls"

You forgot the part where someone comes in and berates you for being 'lazy'

Even in physical health, if you are sick for a week, people will empathize with you. Past that people will get tired of you.

Facts. As soon as I had a serious mental breakdown my wife's family went from loving me to convincing my wife to leave me.

What's the most messed up about it is that people think you can just stop anytime you want to

Yes exactly but even worst people just blame you, tease you and even insult you about that and refuse to help you even your family won't support you

So true this. Nobody seems to give a shit when you’re going through a mental storm but when you’re physically unwell everyone is there asking about you.

It's sad but true. No one want to see the pain that can't be seen. So people push it aside in hopes that it will go away. Others don't want to feel the emotional pain of others and be stuck with the burden, so ignoring has become the normal.
Its easier to gift a present to someone with a broken leg, knowing the pain is temporary (one present at the start), then to gift a present to someone struggling mentally, not knowing how long u will be "stuck" with them (a present everytime they feel down) . The world really needs to change. 😞

Mental health issues hurt a lot more than anything physical can, people think because you look okay, that you are but a smile and a well kept appearance can hide a lot of pain from the world. By the way I do suffer from both cronic physical and mental pain, so I am talking from my personal experience.

My experience is sympathy and gifts are typically only given for acute physical health issues. Chronic physical health experiences are more like mental health.

If you're in the hospital for a mental health reason, no one will bring you flowers or give you a get well soon card

having to struggle with both at the same time (especially when mental problems are caused by the physical health.) is pretty awful. people say “oh i hope you get better soon!” and “im so sorry to hear that.. i hope you feel better :(“ so you just kinda say “yeah hopefully.” even though deep down, you think it will never end. it’s a feeling like your drowning in an endless ocean of pain and sadness, but you just have to mask the emotional and mental side of it until that mask eventually breaks and they see your true colours.

to anyone suffering, just know that im rooting for you. you can do this. i don’t care who you are, where you’re from, what you’ve done or what you will do, but i care about you. you’ve got this. <3

I think this is why it's so important to check in on someone every once in a while, it doesn't take much effort to ask if there's anything they need or simply get them something small, but it does make a big difference to them, knowing that there is someone who cares...

We need more love for both health

I know when my sister isn't the happiest, I try doing things to make her happy

Or when my friends are sad, I try doing little things, like complainants ever morning

I was in hospital in 2021 twice for Mental health. It makes me really sad how different you get treated. The 2nd time no one came to see me

Both types are mental health in my household. My parents couldn’t care less.

Also worth mentioning that invisible physical illnesses and disabilities are treated like the mental health in this. 😢
