The Firmament in the Bible is the only day God doesn't say "it was good". He says "and it was so".
This is because the FIRMament is our 3 dimensional universe. It separates us from God's supernatural dimension where Heaven is.
God's desire is that His family be together, not separate. In His foreknowledge and plan He knew that all things would take place as they have thus needing to separate us from Him for a short time so that His Glory does not overwhelm and harm us.

God uses the weak to confound the strong. In the grand scheme of things we are created lowly and weakest of all creation, that in our weakness, He is made strong thus glorifying His name forever and confounding Satan when we displace the fallen angels of Heaven at the time of our (the churches) glorification.
