For me, he part with Alvin and David isn't about the criticism itself, because of course the judges are allowed to critique the dishes and allow the chefs to grow. It was the fact that Alvin almost made it seem like the dish was going to be incredible and near-perfect, which of course made David super proud of himself, only to then be like, "Psych, it sucks, " which is just a harsher way to go about it than he could have. Seeing the bright smile on David's face, only to drop immediately when Alvin told him it wasn't good enough is something I know would hit me hard if I was in David's place, but of course he went on to win so he took the criticism well even though it hurt me to see it.

I gotta say that most everyone who's won MasterChef Canada definitely deserved it. MasterChef Canada is definitely my favorite version by far. I'm a really good Chef, but these so called "home cooks" just amaze me. Can't say enough about the contestants and their talent. And the judges are so different. You can tell they really give a fu*ck about teaching.

Tortellini can be any size; who said it has to be the norm that everyone else is running with. Come on now, simple things the judges find to critiqued. Loosen up, let the presentation, the taste, the making the dish and ingredients in a new unique way and not from the norms or traditions. Just saying.
