#1 iron - affects thyroid medicine absorption. Wait 4 hrs before taking iron supplement
#2 calcium - affects thyroid medicine absorption. Wait 4 hrs before taking calcium supplement
#3 biotin - vitamin to help grow hair, doesn’t impact thyroid function. Impacts thyroid test, appears like you’re taking too much. Avoid biotin for 2-3 days prior to blood test
#4 iodine - wrong dose can harm thyroid. Too high iodine and too low selenium can cause thyroid inflammation
#5 thyroid glandulars - harmful if contains thyroid hormones. Unverified amounts of thyroid hormone impact lab results. Look for reputable manufacturers

I have read many books, I listened to many Youtube videos by many of the world's leading gurus and health experts but nothing came close to the hidden herbs by anette ray. I recommend everyone giving it a read.

Before I retired my doctor was always telling me that my thyroid numbers in my labs were bad and she would send me to a specialist. The specialist would tell me that I was right at the door of being put on thyroid medicine. The year before I retired I changed my whole diet and lost some weight. Since I retired I have I started with Keto diet but I just found it too hard to stay on. Since then Ive been on a low carb regiment most of the time. Cut just about all sugar and processed food out of diet and concentrated on eating clean. Happy to say that my thyroid function comes out normal now .Since Im retired I have the time to indulge in my favorite sport, Cycling and down here in Florida I do it year round. Some how Ive healed my thyroid through diet and exercise.

I was taking a high iodine dose for a few years. I think it was about 125 mg. in a liquid form. I didn't take it everyday but maybe 3-5x per week. In 2020 I had inflammation of my thyroid, so much that I felt like I was choking. I had an ultrasound and they found many nodules, one was quite large, 2cm across. I am much better today (2022) but my last ultrasound still showed all the nodules, which I was surprised because I no longer feel like I'm choking, though I can feel something in my throat when I swallow at times. When I am stressed or overemotional (very sad or angry), The choking feeling returns for a while. I am taking Armour Thyroid and my labwork is coming back good (I am hypothyroid). Going gluten free has helped tremendously. I no longer have the chronic neck pain I have had since I was a child! Meditation is a must. I fight doing it but after I stretch and spend time with God in meditation and prayer I feel so good, so happy, so calm, so hopeful about life. Thank you Dr., your videos have helped me so much! God Bless you.

I started taking high doses of iodine regularly to improve my energy levels when I began working as a nurse and was not getting enough sleep. The stress and chronic insomnia were causing a feeling of fatigue and difficulty focusing.

I had read that high doses of iodine are common in the diet in Japan, and that supplementing would increase alertness and as a bonus, might reduce breast cancer risk.

After a couple of months of supplementing at least 2-3 times per week, my thyroid gland started to swell, and I developed a sore throat and other flu-like symptoms, in addition to hyperthyroid-like symptoms, such as excessive sweating, increased anxiety, increased insomnia, and increased heart rate (didn't check my BP at the time).

I researched my symptoms and found that it appeared that I had thyroiditis later found thru lab testing to not be Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but merely an inflammation of the thyroid that was not non-autoimmune in origin (Hashimoto's is autoimmune), likely either brought on by the excessive iodine supplementation, or a rare viral infectionof the thyroid, or both.

I went on a low iodine diet for a few weeks, as well as regular aspirin supplementation for anti-inflammation during the worst part of the thyroiditis (several days, in which I had thyriod pain and difficulty swallowing).

After the acute thyroiditis resolved, my thyroid function was low-normal for a while, then after about 8 months, when i next had thyroid labs checked, i had subclinical hypothyroidism for the 1st time in my life.

So right now I still have subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH between 6 and 7, but T4 still normal). There is a chance that the thyroid function will improve up to a year and a half after the acute thyroiditis, so I am waiting to see if it improves before going on levothyroxine.

Anyway, that is my story-- perhaps it will help someone?

Took low dose iodine with no appreciable change. Now I just try to eat fish now and then. Tried Armour Thyroid at the dose equivalent and was massively over corrected. Now using a glandular along with T4, and feel better than I ever have then on T4 alone (30 years on T4 and have always felt I was taking it for a number on a paper with no change in any symptom)

Also I have lost 50 pounds in less than 9 months. My TSH numbers are never out of range. Highest being 2.13 in November. I haven't used thyroid medication. I'm currently waiting to see my functional doctor for a follow up and a plan to get this under control. One thing that I have learned is the adaptogens such as cordyceps mushrooms helps lower TPO. Magnesium does as well.

I had been taking heavy doses of iodine recently, and then had some blood work taken. The doctor called me back and asked if I had ever had thyroid problems. I had blood work taken about two years prior and there weren't any issues. I am going back in a month to retest and will try to repost the results. Thanks doc!

After taking biotin for a couple of years this is the first time I'm hearing it can affect test results!!! This is not the first time I'm learning important info ages after I needed it. Next time I see the endocrinologist I will ask them if they even know about this and if so and why didn't they warn me?!

Thank You Dr. Childs for all the information you have provided. I received the results of an ultrasound of my thyroids...13 mm & 17 mm growth on my left and right thyroid gland, have taken Levothyroxine for over 12 years, with changes on prescription, by physician. Last ultrasound study indicated a TI-RADS 6 on the larger growth (require biopsy), your YouTube popped up as soon as I received the paperwork of the last ultrasound. Again, Thank You for all the information you are providing.

I was taking liquid nascent iodine. 650 mcg a day for months. Sometimes twice a day. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease shortly after. TSH was >150 and thyroid hormone was practically non existent. My doctor said I was on the verge of going into a coma. Haven't taken any since. Changed my diet, taking zinc, selenium, vit d, and many other supplements in addition to my Levothyroxine 112 mcg (probably not the best medication but that is all she will give me) I'm feeling much better. Haven't felt this good in years. My gut health has also improved significantly over the past months since I cut gluten and dairy. I used to have horrible IBS-c. Not anymore! Your videos have been a huge asset to me in my health journey and I appreciate them so much. Thank you for your wonderful advice and guidance.

Thank you!! I stopped my Hypo Thyroid meds 7 years ago and replaced it with plant based Whole Foods and 12.5 mg of Iodine from a company called Optimox. First month off meds and new life style, my TSH was 16, two months into my diet TSH was 9 and 4 months later TSH was 3.5. My Doc said see you in a year! January 2022 I thought, ummmm I feel great don’t need to take the Iodine pill so I stopped. In March my TSH was 16 😮!! I started taking 50mg of Iodine. In June TSH was 9 and in October it was 3.45!! I kept taking 50mg instead of going back to 12.5 mg. Last month my hair was falling drastically, brain fog, tiredness! I went to see my Doc, TSH was at 19! He wants to put me on meds but I explained it was TOO MUCH IODINE that caused it. I stopped Iodine all together to see if my high TSH will drop. I hope so! Doc is giving Biotin and B12 injections, my hair is falling allot less. I’m hopeful I will cure my thyroid with Whole Foods and low iodine dosage. listen to Doctor Childs! Don’t take high dosage of Iodine!! ❤

My TSH has never been high. My T4 was slightly low initially but has steadily gotten lower without Synthroid.T3 is typically low. All other recommended tests are in range and at optimal levels. I'm miserable... depression, weight gain, tremendous fatigue... not even sure what to do anymore. 😢

I was scared off using iodine supplements because I have Hashimotos. I did an iodine test and was deficient. It’s just as bad for the thyroid to be deficient in iodine, so please test iodine if you have thyroid issues. Don’t assume anything.

I been taking levothyroxine for many years one of my right side was remove my Doctor told me to take vitamin C, D3, B12, calcium , and iron because I become anemic, after a few months I got sick and hospitalized for three days hospital doctor told me to talk to my provider that iron should be taken out and should not take it anymore, even before I told my doctor that he is prescribing me so many medications and I refuse to take it, everything you mention all makes sense to me I was over medicated for wrong reason, thank you so much for clearing the effect on those medications on our thyroid

Hey dr. Childs, I have 2 questions for you on Iodine, since you said that high doses of Iodine can inhibit thyroid's function or even cause autoimmunity.
1) What is your stance on say Japanese consuming ridiculously high amounts of iodine but having probably the best thyroid function in the world, least autoimmune thyroid problems ?
2) What is your stance on theory that some practitioners practically implement, saying that it's not the iodine that causes the problems, it's the damage from halogens that are inside the body from tap water, chemicals and other toxins, mainly excess fluorine, bromine and chlorine. They displace iodine in our bodies and intoxicate us. And when you take iodine in higher amounts your body is thus detoxing, which initially puts your body to detox phase which may last quite for some time and if your detox pathways aren't working you suffer a lot. But if you take care and detox well, you actually restore optimal function of the body and the thyroid.
Will be waiting for your answers. Cheers!

Obviously if iron is demanded by your thyroid glands to function well, if you don't take enough of it, it impacts your thyroid. It's my case, which was why I switched chicken breast for shank 6 times a week. My ferritin level was at 43 as opposed to 200 for a sports guy.
