Great to see more quality, high refresh rate monitors out there.

Just need to say, what’s the point of rear RGB on these things, if they’re not vivid enough to light up the wall behind it for some effective ambience? At least go all-in with the RGB & provide a full strip along the the 4 edges, or nothing at all 😆

I still think "HUB Essentials Checklist" should split column "Real" to two: is advertised is true, and 2nd HUB recommendation of minimum spec is meet. So for this monitor HDMI 2.0 is true advertisement, but it not pass HUB minimum requirements.
Because in current form is misleading, that MSI is misleading with advertisement, which is not true in case of HDMI 2.0

Moved from a Dell U3011 (yep.. really) to an MSI MAG274QFR-QD 165Hz. Thanks to these reviews. My god it’s night and day compared to my ancient professional monitor with 20ms of input latency

I followed your advise and pulled the trigger on this monitor. Loving it! Although it came with 2 dead pixels. Sucks that MSI requires 4 dead pixels in order to be allowed for replacement. Come on MSI!

In addition to the slew of useful data, I would appreciate more visual examples of how different monitors appear during use. Particularly examples that demonstrate the issues various measurements quantify. All the data from apples to apples measurements are great, and I struggle to translate many of those into their significance IRL.

Just bought this today at Micro Center. I went in for the Alienware 27" AW2721D and left with this on account the salesman said the $250 spread wasn't worth it. Seems legit, let's see how it performs. Cheers

I'm sold, but in the PG279QM! Most of the stats highlighted how that was the better option (except brightness & contrast) than the two models talked about.

MSI MAG274QRX - Based on your review I ordered this monitor, first thing 3x Pixels dead visible (Green), second thing the image is not as sharp as expected nor that impressive. Returned this item and got the Samsung G7 curved and holy smokes, a night and day experience ! Yes that monitor you couldn't stand to look at is actually extremely good in all aspects.

Thanks Tim. Overall this seems like a nice upgrade to my current 1440p monitor. Have always been a set it up once, kind of person with monitors. So has to have a decent all around setting, that just works!
Currently going for £460 at a couple of vendors in the UK. That I have used before. Maybe wait to see if I can snap it up for under £400 in the future.

I'm such an asshole I mostly watched this to compare the PG279QM I just bought to potentially make myself feel better (I do). Jokes aside, I really appreciate you guys making such great monitor content. Your videos really helped me decide on the PG279QM because I wanted RLA so bad and the monitor seemed to be pretty great aside from that feature. This MSI monitor seems like a fantastic option for this price point.

Also, I may be blind but I don't see the monitors unboxed link in the description.

Great review as always. Have you thought of doing a Monitors 101 ? Like the differences in HDMI 2.0 vs 2.1 and Display port. It seems a lot of them fail HDR. Is it possible to see the different HDR levels thru a video? Does a good gaming monitor make a good movie monitor? Well y, you get the idea...lol.

I think the best metric for response time should be inversely scaled by the brightness.

It is less important when it's a smaller relative difrence to the brightness of the pixel.

And more important for darker values as smaller changes are more noticeable.

Was waiting for this review. I've had this for about a month and noticed right away how good it is at all ranges in the fast mode. Like it way better than I liked my g7 that had a dead pixel so I returned it. Only negative is a brownish antiglare coating which shows with ips glow in the bottom corners on my unit. Only noticeable on completely black screen tho.
