Is This Evidence That God DOES Heal Amputees?

Skeptics often ask, "why won't God heal amputees?" While I'm unaware of a limb growing out, there is one medically documented case of a regrown intestine. I'm talking about the curious case of Bruce Van Natta. Allow me to read a brief excerpt from Craig Keener's book Miracles Today: The Supernatural Work of God in the Modern World and discuss how some skeptics have responded.

I’ve been a Radiologic Technologist for 15 years. At 2:21 the gentleman states, “They said they relied on X-rays, and that’s not the best way to image soft body tissue at the best of times.” That’s a false, but also predictable answer coming from someone who is not in the imaging field. “X-Ray” is a blanket term people use for many different types of imaging including plain film, fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography (CT) ect… Plain film is often used to create excellent detailed imaging of the intestines by having the patient drink a contrast solution that will show detailed information on the intestines. We can also insert it rectally (Barium Enema) depending on the portion of the intestines we are imaging. For further enhanced imaging we can use fluoroscopy which will show live imaging as the contrast moves through the bowels. We can also use Computed Tomography (again, which uses X-rays) with contrast to create amazingly detailed imaging of the bowels. The way the gentleman in this video attempts to discredit the study because he frames the imaging as being done on plain film with no contrast (which wouldn’t be done to evaluate intestinal trauma of this magnitude) is misleading.

*Edited for spelling.

Im from Wisconsin
I know and have met Bruce Vannatta several times. He was slowly starving to death over the months after miraculously surving the accident.
The healing for his intestines was an instantaneous event.

Skeptic: intestines don’t regrow, but I could see it happening if it needed to happen for me to still deny God’s existence and the existence of miracles

Man the unbelief within the parable of Lazarus and the rich man just becomes more and more real as time goes by 🤦🏿‍♂️

"the standard of proof (the SOP) in our homicide trials isn’t “beyond a possible doubt, ” it’s “beyond a reasonable doubt, ” and there’s a big difference between these two standards." ~ J. Warner Wallace, Cold-Case Christianity.

Atheists always say they would believe in God if He just performed X miracle. They will always find some naturalistic explanation to write it off.

Good video. I remember being very unimpressed with Blais' suggestion (maybe the intestine can naturally regrow) because at that point the floodgates are opened and they can't be shut. It becomes impossible to be convinced by a miracle because you could always postulate an extremely rare exception to the natural order.

Fodor's suggestion is somewhat more probable but I don't think it works either, for the reasons you cited.

This idea that a medical miracle would happen naturally, simply because you are extremely injured, is so shockingly idiotic, I'm having trouble accepting that someone actually proposed it as a serious option.

I wrote this in response to a comment made below but I think it would better if I put in as a stand alone comment so everyone can see.

As I write this, I’m in the hospital with debilitating back pain. I’ve prayed for it to go away and it hasn’t.

However, I was in a car accident which left a number of the ligaments and tendons in my shoulder completely torn. Damaged beyond repair. I lived with constant pain, limited mobility and strength, and regularly having to deal with my shoulder popping out of the socket. One night it became so bad that I couldn’t sleep and was awake in bed in tears from the pain. I prayed, and no sooner had I asked God to heal me than I felt my shoulder pop itself back into the socket. A warm relief came over my shoulder and the next day I felt no pain and haven’t felt any pain since. That was years ago. Tendons and ligaments do not grow back if they have been severed, yet my shoulder is completely healed. What I experienced isn’t medically possible.

Paul prayed for deliverance from some affliction and The Lord refused to heal him. Meanwhile Paul was able to heal others through prayer. We can’t understand God’s will. Why he chooses to do certain things and not others. It’s not our place to question the will of The Lord. It is our duty to trust him no matter what. I can personally testify to the efficacy of prayer. It won’t always work, but it does work. And whether The Lord chooses to heal my back as he did my shoulder I will praise him for the rest of my days.

I was gonna comment. But I'm just gonna say; whatever you said in the conclusion.

Remember when Jesus healed the blind man by first taking him out of the town, and then telling him not to go back? I think skeptics should be careful. If you can't find anything miraculous, it may be that due to a lack of openness, God is hiding it from you.

He regrew 80% of his intestine overnight, and the best they can do is 'thickening of the lining'?

I’m sorry if I seem uncharitable, but those naturalistic explanations on the livestream for how the dude survived and is living normally seemed like an awful lot of high octane copium to me.

I watched a 7 hour stream of James fodor critiquing miracles/ndes and I couldn't help but laugh throughout the whole thing. It was just an exercise in hand waving. Skeptics seem to think that if they can somehow posit an alternative explanation then they've done a good job and they can go home.

Beautiful. I'm glad I've had a similar experience with this "strong electricity" thing while someone laid their hands on me, which makes me trust more in this video and similar reports.

God is amazing! No one is as great as my God! Them trying to justify it is kinda funny. It’s like they don’t even believe it 😭😭 I hope they know know the Lord is great in mercy and if he can do it for this man he can do it for them.

There’s many people who help heal people in his name and have the confidence in God to produce these miracles. My grandmother was one. It truly is all about your confidence in God, you can’t have any doubt.

Love your videos, Testify. God bless you. It's good that you made a video following this up conveying that Christians should first strengthen their faith before going into the battlefield against opponents.

This case needs to be more known than it is especially in regards to more commonly combat sceptics saying God would heal amputees if he existed.

There were skeptics in Jesus's time that actually saw his miracles and still doubted. Basically if someone doesn't want to believe, then no amount of evidence will make them believe.

I've tried searching online but I can't find any independent statement from Bruce's doctors on this. Can you link me up?
