I'm 25 and just now unlearning the things my imposter syndrome convinced me of--it took finding a partner who's autistic and more supportive than I genuinely deserve, and a workplace with bosses who recognize I have imposter syndrome and go out of their way to praise and encourage me whenever they can. I hope everyone with ADHD who struggles with this can find the same for themselves. It's a process that I have to go through every day, but it's worth it to finally believe I might actually be genuinely good at something instead of just being lucky or a good actor

I’ve had this for years. Not only that but in general the mindset of “anything must be achieved ONLY by hard work/sacrifice/sweat and tears”. Like literally pig something goes too well I was feeling anxious that it will soon be bad anyway. I was sabotaging everything simply because I just couldn’t believe life can be good, life can be amazing, and it can last for a long time… realising this really helps you…

I had no idea it was ADHD that caused that. Thank you for making awareness of this.

If someone praises you let it get to your head. Instead of always trying to humble yourself, overthinking how you procrastinated and how your success was just sheer luck. Our brains do not work like others. Your competitors will try to shame you because it may seem that success is easy for you. But only we know the battles we constantly have inside our heads. This is why you deserve all the praise by others and also by us.

I am constantly thinking that “I am not good enough” and “I don’t deserve it”😅 Thanks for telling me that my inner talk was ADHD trait.

It also happens because people are always telling you that you're different & even difficult, so you are always being compared.

I’ve been in denial and saying “I don’t have imposter syndrome” but you explaining it the way you did brought me to tears instantly because that’s literally me. Thank you for sharing this message.

I love the light you’re putting on all these things that stem from ADHD. 48 years I’ve lived with ADHD and just found out less than a year ago. I wish I’d had known all these things as a younger man. I grew up hating myself and never felt like I deserved anything good but also believed I deserved everything bad that happened. I hope people are finding out much earlier in life all the other things ADHD causes so they don’t have to live almost half a century the same way I have.

Aw, gosh, thanks dude. I'm a Crisis worker and being in the constant milue of trauma I sometimes forget how important he work is I do and that I actually have an impact. I appreciate this a lot.

This is the worse part. I've lost/quit every job because of this. I'm never really as good at something as I believe, and the fact that I hold people to the same unmanageable standards, builds so much guilt.

True, I remember out right crying cause someone complimented me. But I am also a product of narcissistic parent. So I am not sure which is it. If I feel it so intensely due to combination of both.

Spot on. I don’t ever feel like I’ve achieved or accomplished anything, besides my children. Anything that is just something I do, I constantly question and undervalue it.

Just getting an ADHD diagnosis and learning how it affects the way you think totally changes your perspective on life. Treatment transforms it. Especially if you weren't diagnosed until adulthood.

I know this very well. It sneaks on us and destroys many areas of our lives. I wonder if it formulated in childhood when short term memory failed us as a kid and we got negative feedback from parents teachers and even our own selfs.

Wow unreal timing. I was just sharing with a friend and professor about my imposter syndrome, as it has been relentless in classes lately.
A peer advisor spent 4 hrs trying to help me see I had things to be proud of and could own and pursue my dreams.... I had no idea this was related, or the extent of a lot of what you shared. THANK YOU.
Best short I have watched all month! Esp at 3am lol

Well, this made me cry. I felt so seen watching to this video. This way of thinking is my baseline self-image. It's extremely difficult to push past, but I am trying. Thank you for the validation and understanding.
