I knew Punk as an indie guy in 2000. I knew him in 2010 when I was writing WWE storylines for the video games.
He was always the same lukewarm dude. In a way, I can respect that.

6:25 - sad to see Conrad miss the more important stat. Yes Punk was champion for 434 days - but he main-evented 5 of the 14 PPVs during that timeframe... Punk was champion so that the front office could keep him under control, while still treating others like the real top guy.

He came back too soon in 2011, they should have waited until at least SummerSlam. It would have been awesome if he wrestled some matches in NJPW or ROH

I love JR’s honesty, he sees through bullshit and he has always spoken his mind, I literally can only fall asleep listening to the ppvs JR announced

Are the people commenting even listening to the show? They seem to be the exact opposite of what J R is saying.

This is why Steve Austin and Cm Punk will forever be my 1&2 when it comes to my all time favorites. Both worked their way to the top and don't kiss ass to get something done. They speak up when something isn't right💯💯💯

I think the 2 biggest mistakes WWE ever made, and what have them where they are now, were missing the boat on the Yes Movement, and screwing over CM Punk.

Daniel Bryan and CM Punk were hand delivered on a silver platter to them as their Rock and Austin for the PG Era. They were getting the biggest completely organic pops since the Attitude Era, and they basically said "Nah, thats alright, we don't want that." When the crowd starts hijacking ENTIRE SHOWS over wanting to see a single guy, and in Bryans case, his gimmick spills over into mainstream media, you embrace the hell out of that and give them whatever they want and ride that rocket all the way to payday. They gave up TWO once in a generation stars, and now they are rudderless looking for someone to take the spots that were rightfully theirs, all because of what? Some silly idea of what a top guy SHOULD look like? Personal dislike?

Now the audience (at least, pre lockdown) is dead, because they've been conditioned to feel like "Why care about anyone? They're just gonna do what they want regardless of how we respond. If we like someone, they're gonna take him away from us, if we hate someone, they're gonna push him to the moon as a babyface." The audience is conditioned to believe they are irrelevant to the direction of the product, and that is the most toxic thing you could possibly do to an audience.

Punk was such a missed opportunity, if there had been a show like AEW for Punk to go to back then, you know he would have taken that audience with him instead of just getting burned out and quitting. And then when Daniel had fully recovered from that concussion, and they made him sit on his ass for another 2 years, he would have been right there with Punk on top instead of just sitting there losing all his steam.

that's what i don't understand about people. if someone is not acting like everybody's friend, they are labeled as douchebag or asshole. the people who act like it are not trustworthy and those are the ones who probably wants to be everybody's confidant just so they can hold their secrets over their heads.

Now the guy is back to wrestling I wonder how a decade after his fame is going to be like.

People forget that at one point Punk was outselling Cena, which at the time was unheard of. I don't think we've seen activity like that until Cody came back to WWE, outselling nearly everyone at the top of the card, including even Cena/Austin for their returns.

He shouldv've been the new Edge for Cena

They should have let CM Punk do that angle of him being the Champion and away from WWE instead of him returning back the very next week. It is what it is but the WWE almost ruined the Summer of Punk

Wwe could have easily changed in the early 2010s with punk but no all they want to do is not believe in making top draws. Still make cena the no. 1 guy and bring in more retired wrestlers for the nostalgia factor which happened till 2018. Also hhh was the person who brings everyone down with his creative process. With all this happening they're making sure all have fans have no interest in the product.

Punk will probably get an Edge type deal next year, now then he’s seemingly open to coming back for a big bag of money. 2 or 3 years ago Punk’s answer on returning to WWE would’ve been nope, never happening but his answer always changed since then to unlikely, I’m done, not interested, maybe and then Never Say Never. People who’ve said that before who’ve left on the worst terms ended up coming back like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage was gonna come back but ended up passing away, Bret Hart, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Kurt Angle. But now that Punk doesn’t seem to hold any grudges towards WWE since he joined backstage and obviously loves talking about it more than in recent years he probably misses it and is still thinking of coming back whenever the time is right, and Vince does have a history of mending fences and welcoming back superstars who’ve had a major fallout in the company. I still think Bret Hart’s fallout was much worse than Punk’s cause it took Bret Hart 12 years to come back and get over his ego and this is the same dude that legit socked Mr McMahon in the face after the Montreal Screwjob. Punk just left while his contract was expiring, also obvious reasons and never socked Vince in the face, and if he comes back in 2021 it’ll be 7 years that he’s back. So Never Say Never is still a big thing in the business and will continue to be in years to come and obviously money talks a return for Punk isn’t far fetched as it once was a few years ago and return for him is likely at this point. He might be the only one that can save the ratings from plummeting, now that The Undertaker is retired, Goldberg doesn’t help along with Lesnar, Punk might be the only option for WWE to call up. And what’s good is the HHH and Vince are open to bringing Punk back when the time is right and that might be now. #NeverSayNever
