Actually I would recommend that this person get a gauze pad and put some alcohol on top and clean their WHOLE outer ear and behind the ears too

I have long hair and had the same problem when I got my cartilage piercing. The problem was fixed by putting a captive hoop instead of a stud in the ear.

I would recommend that this person thoroughly cleans there ears, all the way around. I’m sure that’s how that piercing got like that if you look around the ear it’s quite dirty all over the place. Hygiene is absolutely key!!

I had a piercing in the same spot. It only lasted for four months because it was so painful I couldn’t tolerate it anymore.
I have other piercings: two in each ear & one in my nose but the one in the upper ear was the worst!
I cleaned it two or three times a day & moved it around so it didn’t get scabby but it didn’t work for me & I had to remove it. That was one of the best days because I didn’t have anymore pain!

Ive had my ear peirced there for a long time and this hasn't ever happened despite not having a stud in it for ages its never closed up completely the others in the earlobes are much more problematic always filling up with sebum and needing to be squeezed out if thats not done putting in an ear-ring can be tricky 😊

“I don’t know how this would happen.” Lol. No. I guess you wouldn’t. While a piercing heals, you have to keep turning the earring. If you have long hair, it will wrap around the earring as it turns without you even knowing. It’s gross.

This doesnt need to come out, no piercer in their right mind would siggest leaving a piercing out to clear a non existant infection. The only thing that needs doing is cleaning it and using something to rehydrate the ear.

Ive had that happen to me. I just ended up getting the hair unwrapped and thoroughly cleaning the area with some alcohol. I also put a cold cloth to the area to help cool it down and as okay but then next half hour

I can tell you how it happened. When I first got my cartilage piercing, I would twist the earring around in the hole to keep it from sticking to the earring and getting crusty. I had hair constantly getting stuck in there and then I was twisting it around without meaning to

I had tried several times on both ears and they just never healed right. I had other body piercings but my hair is fine but I have a ton of it. It’s actually extremely hard to keep long hair from getting wrapped around there. I was probably OCD irritating it but I eventually had to take them out and not try again. But my other stuff like nose, belly etc healed fine. The cartilage in the ear is very different for some people is what my piercer told me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a former piercer, I had a client with this once!

I've had an industrial piercing for upwards of 5 years, and have waist-length hair. It's not uncommon for females with long hair, especially those who wear their hair down, and constantly tuck it being their ears, for random, single strands to get tangled around cartilage piercings. But when that happens, the piercing gets irritated pretty quickly and is fixed and treated equally as fast, so it doesn't get infected or further irritated.

Mine did this... i was dumb and Young and went to the mall where someone used a gun. I had to remove it as it got really infected
