What's It Like Being A Mom and An Athlete? with Rachel Strait

I got the opportunity to stay with Rachel and Kyle Strait at their home Strait Acres and while I was there Rachel shared some of her experience and thoughts on being an athlete and a mom to Stevie. I hope this is interesting to men and women who are thinking about having kids while still doing the hobbies you love.

As a dad, I COULD NOT WAIT for my boys to get old enough to be able to start riding with me. We have a 3.5 and an almost 2 year old, the oldest has been riding his full on pedal bike with no training wheels for about 6 months now, and the little one is flying around on his stryder. It's been so fun watching them get better and better, and really kind of shocking their mom and I at how fast they're progressing. Good times!

Two girls who can absolutely send, talking about life! Amazing interview April!! I love seeing the human side of the sport - not just the fancy edits that everyone puts out.

Great interview! As a 54 year old mom MTBer, trail runner, I definitely experienced that expectation to just be a mom rather than a whole human being. I am SO happy to see that things have changed for women!! Happy Mothers Day!

Absolutely great job, both interview and as a mum carrying on (fun for all the family - and the dog, nearly in the way). Look forward to more to come.

I’m 62 I race BMX and mountain bikes. You would think oh their old guys they’re old ex pros. They’ve raced around the world they trained today like when they were in their 20s and 30s getting paid honestly some of them are still getting paid. They just got older so 25 to 35 having a child, still trying to race for myself. It’s taking my grandchildren and the crazy thing. Is the grandchildren get it you have to train so I have to hit the gym. I have to get on the trails. I have to get out and do my sprints . It’s a learning curve. It’s a culture shock all of a sudden yeah you’re not responsible just for you

As a mom of a 2-year-old who likes to ride Gravel and MTB I really enjoyed this interview. But I do have a question, who is the cat?

I really enjoyed the interview and you did a lot of cool b roll footage and the editing was very nice. The one constructive criticism that I had was the shots you did with Rachel for the interview questions. You keep looking at the camera and it just feels like you are hoping that it is going well but it feels awkward and not natural. I think a better angle would be for your b roll footage inserted while she was talking or when she is the only one talking to just have the camera focused on her. This is just my perspective of the video and that is who I felt when you kept looking back at the camera or your constant smile didn't feel genuine or natural and took my focus off of her and put it on you. I hope this helps and I am just one person so perhaps I am wrong lol.

The content itself is great. Not everyday you hear or even think about this. Not sure it hits the target audience that was accumulated during these years though. But maybe that's the plan.
