Lang Lang plays the infamously difficult Ossia Cadenza from Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto 3 (Op. 30) quite flawlessly and manages to troll around a bit while doing so (0:30)!

You know he has technique to spare when he can stare at the camera lens for effect!

Not always a fan of his interpretations, but his passion is undeniable. And goddamn he’s got some crazy technique.

Like him or loath him, you have to admit a) the facial expressions are hilarious b) you' ve got to be a phenomenal pianist to pull them AND to be able to pull off this cadenza as well at the same time.

Listening to Lang Lang play is simply breathtaking. I cannot say the same about watching him play.

That build up was done absolutely flawlessly... Wonderful rendition of an already exhilarating piano cadenza

The misconception is that classical music is for the melancholic, so people find it difficult to accept a happy, vibrant and energetic young man displaying absolute mastery on the piano. Piano is his life. Allow him to eat it, drink it, kiss it, dance with it, practise kunfu with it, etc. We love all that. God bless Lang Lang, and may I meet him some day.

Lang Lang's piano teacher:

When there's a key change you have to lift your eyebrows.
For low tremolos you have to do an angry face.
For dramatic, romantic cadenzas you should act like a soap opera actor reacting to the news that his wife is actually his sister.

This has to be one of the most unorthodox way to play this cadenza

As someone who loves metal guitarists... I love the facial expressions. My man is FEELING it. Is this still called "shredding" on the piano? Because that's what this dude does 🤘🏻 Wish I could play.

If you ask 100 classical aficionados "who played it the best" for any piece, you will get at least 25 different responses. Does that mean 24 of these people are wrong? Absolutely not. It just means a lot of it is subjective. And there is nothing wrong with that. We all have different tastes.

Despite he's emoting facial expressions his playing is titanic as is his technique. He's a very special individual indeed.

I love how his whole self express ans connect with the piece. It somehow connected to the audience, at least to me.

0:26 yes yes but do you see how emotional the man behind him is as well?

I was watching 0:27 through 0:34 whilst sipping on coffee, and I laughed so hard I chortled coffee out my nose and onto my couch. My nose is burning and my couch looks like someone peed on it.

Say what you want about his facial expressions but if you close your eyes you can feel what he was trying to share with the audience. The man pours his heart out every time. This Ossia Cadenza is masterful played
