There are so many things to love about Yuja, and this video is a perfect example of why. It goes without saying that she is the greatest living pianist, but she also has a really wonderful sense of humor! I have seen her in a number of different interviews, and she is always so charming and vivacious. She smiles and laughs, often at herself or something she just said! In other words, even though she is a brilliant musician, she doesn’t take herself too seriously! And many other pianists really DO!! 😂 She seems to be very in touch with her inner child, and that brings forth a really wonderful playfulness, which this video captures perfectly. And one other thing comes to mind that I find difficult to put into words, but I will try because I find it is so personally inspirational. Yuja is so completely and unapologetically HERSELF! She knows who she is. She likes what she likes. She dresses the way she wants to dress. (Which is absolutely AMAZING btw.!) In short, she is who she, and doesn’t feel like she constantly needs to justify it or apologize for it, because there is NOTHING to apologize for! And it is this quality that really touches me on a very personal level, because this is something that I am working really hard on in my own. I think I know you I am. I definitely know what I like and what I don’t. I know what I believe and what really matters to me. In short, I really do know who I am at least internally. But if someone questions or criticizes some aspect of myself, I always seem to fold like an umbrella, to feel the need to somehow justify that aspect of myself, and ultimately apologize for it. To actually apologize for being who I am. And I am so sick of it, so completely over it!! And that is why I find this simple little video of Yuja so inspirational. She reminds me to be who I really am, and not feel the need to apologize for it. And so here is this woman whom I have never met, and whom I will probably never meet, who has inspired me in multiple ways: When I listen to one of her phenomenal performances, she inspires me as a musician. And when I see her in a simple video like this one, she inspires me as a human being. Thank you Yuja. 🙏

Serious question. Di performers like her, do things to stress themselves in rehearsal? In order to prepare themselves for real life? Like if they get to a performance and the pianos is different than the one that they rehearsed on or the stool that they sit on is a different height and they can’t adjust it or somebody keeps sneezing in the the audience or whatever?? do they do something like what she is doing in order to increase your adaptability?
