Ironically, Horowitz is probably one of the most interesting pianists to watch because of the way he plays.

I think its more impressive how lang lang manages to make it sound very good while banging his head

Lang Lang is Bugs Bunny of Piano world 😅

Anyone who performs knows you cant (nor should) control how you experience or express yourself when you feel the music - and this is how it must be

Horowitz is just saying he doesn’t do it/can’t do it. While Lang is not my favorite interpreter, he plays brilliantly and beautifully—he’s got a great Rachmaninoff in particular.

For me the only important thing
it's to play well, faces don't matter.

Not every musician does “the face”. A lot do, but not everyone and that’s okay. No roast was involved. He’s just saying he feels it differently when he plays as opposed to those who do the face

Why is Lang Lang always being the target of such comments?! Khatia Buniatishvili, Trifonov, Alexander Malofeev, just to name a few, all of which are excellent pianists are equally as "facially expressive" as he is.

Both great pianists. I listen to music, not look at the pianist. Everybody has his/her own way. There are so many talented pianists and I visited many concerts. Just a few days ago I heard Rachmaninov's 2. piano concert live in concert hall in my home town. Great event.

Not a big lang lang fan but you can tell he loves every second he spends playing and that’s what it’s about😂

Inimitable VH…..lucky for us, that he left many recordings, some vids, and interviews. We can enjoy and learn much from his Journey

Then there is Uchida! I adore that woman. Her playing is divine but watching her is just as good as listening.

I think its fine for people to have their own playing styles. Art is meant to be loved and hated and controversial.
But lets be real, if Lang Lang wasnt chinese, people wouldnt complain. People here gobble western media and adopt sinophobic views without knowing anything.

I am not sure why, but putting the face thing aside, whenever I listen to Lang Lang I don't feel any emotion. I feel his music is a cold sequence of notes. I am not a professional, but I feel he is disconnected from the music, or I would say that he is connected to it in a way that I don't undetstand.

decades ago, artists didn't think about selling or selling themselves and focused on substance much more than form.

Lang Lang watched too much Tom and Jerry

Both are wonderful pianists, in my humble opinion. But Lang Lang is a lot more... "animated" 😂😂😂
