I will never forget this fragment of this documentary. He played a few bars of Rachmaninoff's second concerto, whereas he never played it in public or recorded it. But he did record the third concerto three times. Rachmaninoff said Horowitz played the third one better than he did himself.

love the way you put the orchestra over the video and perfectly sync with Horowitz's playing

Those 2 seconds of playing convinced me that if he recorded the 2nd concerto, it would absolutely make me cry 24 hours.

Those 2 seconds he played the piano, sounded like an entire concert to me.

Vladimir Horowitz was my great-grand uncle. I was told I met him once when I was very little (early 1970s), but I don't remember. Thanks for posting this.

0:06 “My best friend.” The way he said it, made it sound like he really cared a lot for Rach ❤

They call them "the last two romantics" - in 20 century Rachmaninoff and Horowitz were the same as in the 19-th were Chopin and Liszt

You know Rachmaninoff was so special for Horowitz by just seeing how Horowitz expresses about him with such joy and wonder.

Everybody realize who his wife was?
She was the daughter of Toscanini, and was an accomplished musician in her own right.

It’s an absolute crime that we don’t have a recording of Volodia playing the second concerto

Holy smokes .... How in the world can a man of that age coax such marvelous sounds so effortlessly?

already the best ever recording of the 2nd concerto and it's barely seconds long

I love how Horowitz looks to the casual observer (who isn't familiar with him) in his later years like a decrepit old man, but then he blows your mind with the beauty and delicacy of his playing.
