I really liked From Little Tokyo, With Love! It surprised me in the best way, and felt very much like a modern fairytale. I also loved getting more non-fiction recs by watching this video!

Glass Castle was absolutely captivating! And so hard to judge the parents as good or bad, cause after all they loved their kids in their own twisted way.
I want to recommend you Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. All throughout the book you get this deep sense of nostalgia and the characters are amazing, you're gonna love them. It's very environmental from what I can remember. It's that kind of book that reminds you of the past you never actually had, you know?

Infidel was so compelling to read. And it was one of the first nonfiction books I read that made me think maybe I did like genres other than fantasy/sci-fi after all. A couple more I enjoyed were I Am Malala and also The Silk Roads.

**Doesn't read non-fantasy except for the occasional sci-fi.**

**Settles in to watch, anyway.** ❤️

Angela’s Ashes and Glass Castle are incredible reads. A memoir I just finished and loved is Finding Freedom by Erin French. It’s the amazing story behind The Lost Kitchen restaurant.

If you're looking for non-fiction that's more historical Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a must read if you're interested in American indigenous people and how they were screwed in every way. One of my absolute favorites is Endurance about Shackleton's attempt to cross the Antarctic. So gripping-- and that kind of book isn't even my thing. So excited you're getting more into non-fiction. I can't read it as quickly as fiction, but it's worth the extra time.

Love the variety! Great choices! If you are looking for a fun, hard-to-put-down mystery, I highly recommend The Last Thing He Told Me. It really kept me guessing. It’s hard for me to find books like that.

If you like biographies try Malcom X who I think is very under appreciated, Desire, who was Napoleon’s fiancé before he became the emperor. And Wild Swans which follows three generations of Chinese women from the imperial era through the communist revolution to defecting to Europe.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these books, especially the non-fiction selections! I've heard excellent things about Know My Name, Evicted, and Hood Feminism. I'm also interested in The Hundred Years' War on Palestine and Angela's Ashes. I appreciated what you shared about your father. Thanks! ❤️

A book that I really think you'd enjoy is THE HEROINE'S JOURNEY by Gail Carriger. It's all about a concept that is, more or less, the antithesis of the Hero's Journey made famous by Joseph Campbell. It's super interesting. I see the Heroine's Journey all over the place now. It's hard to describe without just rehashing the content of the book.

If you like history and I know you do, Allison Weir writes incredible nonfiction books about British history. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the names because there's so many people but she is an incredible author and historian. What I love most about her is she shows you all of the different point of views and possibilities and doesn't really overtly show only what is her opinion on what happened. My favorite nonfiction of her's is called The Princes in the Tower. She also has some pretty incredible fiction books that are based off of different historical figures lives. Some of them have some controversial things in them but it doesn't take away from the book if you're somebody who likes to stick to the facts. (She only does this and then fiction)

The sound of Gravel was eye opening. Yeonmi Park also has her own personal youtube channel. The girl with the Seven names by Hyeonseo Lee is another great tale about a survivor from N. Korea. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides was a real page turner and is just Fiction.

I just finished Know My Name by Chanel Miller and I know it'll stick with me for a very long time. Can't recommend it enough, the audio is narrated by her and it's fantastic. You can really hear the emotion in her voice.

I found When Breath Becomes Air pretty heavy (but still amazing!), but if you’re interested in something a little more lighthearted but still impactful, would 100% recommend This Is Going to Hurt - Adam Kay. It’s incredibly witty and funny and powerful, read it in one sitting!
