The 7300 isn't 'a shack in a box' it's an HF, 6m and 4m transceiver. It doesn't offer 2m, 70 or 23cms. Nor D-Star for that matter.

From what I heard, the IC-705 seems to have the best overall reception.

I have a 705 and I will sell it, first of all its wifi module quality is disastrous and many users struggle with packet loss problems. Now it's under warranty because it won't even connect to any WiFi anymore. I observed the sound even with my eyes closed and the 7300 is clearly better, the sibilance and sizzling of the HF band are suppressed in it, with the 705 it is difficult to remove it due to the minimum of controls and I don't enjoy listening to it anymore. In addition, today you can buy a 7300 for half the price of a 705, which does not have a tuner, does not have 100W, has fewer buttons and faulty wifi from the factory. Attractive size and UHF/VHF for some, I drive a portable and do not use VHF/UHF. So for the ridiculous price that a used 7300 has now, the 7300 is a clear choice. It's all about the antenna and the operator anyway, the differences are so small in these simulated tests that it doesn't say much.

Speaker on the front is always more pleasing.

I have both radios and I prefer reception on the 705. I think some of the NR algorithms have been updated on the 705 vs the 7300, just my perception.

I would quite happily have any of the two of them. They both have their merits.

I've just bought a 705. i have a 7610 which is about as reliable as a lada. my other radio is a bullet proof 7300. so time will tell with 705. but i'am loving it so far.

Thank You Brilliant Work! Finally a real review by a real ham not by actors with videos full of ads, likes and usual nonsense.

The IC7300 has audio response filters for both RX and TX that are adjustable. Can adjust bass and treble. I assume can do same on IC705. So can adjust to fit your hearing. I do use an external speaker with my IC7300. I do like having the spkr on the front like the IC705 does. That way can mount in box for protection and dont cover spkr when operating. This video is comparing audio quality only. Lots more to compare on these 2 rigs.

I guess that the waterfall setting on both the IC-7300 and the IC-705 where not completely identical. If they are identical, the IC-705 is an improved and shows more detail. I noticed the audio differences, but is the audio directly fed to the camera or is it recorded via a microphone? As said before by others the speakers are not the same.

The 705 has a front facing speaker, compared with the other 2 which may affect the perceived sound?

Well, it's night and day between the 705 and the 7100 :) Thanks for that comparison, it is interesting. 73's :)

6:16 yes, hear the difference. And it seems frequency passband ( may be cnhaged ) narrower on 7300 with consequent sound effect .

Thanks Lewis!
I prefer, well, both of them.
But the IC-705 has a higher price tag in VK than the IC-7300.
Excellent comparison video!

I have a ham friend who has had the
IC-7300 for a while, so I forwarded the
link to this video to him
I think the current prices for the two
transceivers are similar now at $1300.00,
US.

in Brazil the price of the IC705 is the price of a car
I am accepting a donation from this radio.

Please continue with more IC-705 tutorials. Optimizing the waterfall scope, SWR graphing capability, recommended changes from factory default settings, etc. Also D-Star, PSK-31 and RTTY operations. 73 G0NJN / N0KRO

To clarify, the 7300 isn't really what's normally understood as a 'shack in the box' radio. That generally implies something which combines HF and VHF/UHF operation in one unit – ironically, the 705 is nearer to that. QRO versions of a shack in the box would be rigs such as the Kenwood TS2000 and the Yaesu FT857, FT991(a) etc. Everyone and his dog bought a 7300 when they first came out, but it wasn't long before I noticed that many were quickly moving them on too, for some reason, The 705 is a great little radio but I'm not sure that a touch screen is the kind of interface I'd be wanting to manipulate on top of Helvellyn with the wind howling around my ears!

I preffered the IC-705 audio in those comparisons.
Thank you for the video
