Everyone in my family prefers ribeyes except for me, I've always preferred the nys. In my area the ribeye is .50 to $1 more per pound, but that fluctuates a lot. Right now ribeye is $1 cheaper.

After years of eating ribeye exclusively ive switched to ny strip, its a more consistent cut and in my opinion way tastier for slightly less money.

I like NY Strip. Mainly because I buy steaks at Costco. The NY Strip isn’t as wide as the Ribeye so they cut them thicker. I’d say about 1 1/4”. Where the Ribeyes there are cut thin. About 3/4” and I prefer the thicker cut by strip.

I got the answer of which is better. Rib Eye or NY Strip? They're both my favorite steaks to eat. Equally as good in every way. So I flip flop between them. This time a NY Strip. Next time a Rib Eye. And that settles that. lol

When you are younger, steak is just steak but growing up we'd have sirloins, NY strip, T-bone, occasionally at a restaurant maybe a fillet. I dont really ever remembered having a ribeye. As an adult and one who really likes a good steak, I saw lots of people praising the ribeye as the paragon of steak, the ultimate steak for the steak lover.
I have to say I was underwhelmed. The flavor was off-putting, just not good. Hard to say exactly why but it seems like all that marbeling everyone talk so highly about, that makes the ribeeye something special...to me it changed the texture of the meat and the flavor and not in a good way.
Yeah when you sear the steak it forms a type of "crust" this was like an extreme form of that and it just changed the entire experience.

Some people like their hot dogs cooked over and open flame, on a grill, they actually want it to get burnt and have a layer of char, I cant stand that. Thats like the closes analogy I can think of. If you like your hot dogs burnt, black charred, you would probably like a ribeye.
