I think the thickness was the variable here that needed to be consistent.

The $30 Steak was just a cheaper wagyu it obviously wasn't Japanese A5 or anything like that.

I agree, the $20 steak looks like a winner. 🥩

i also chose the 20 from looks - buy a full ribeye and butcher it. Great summer BBQ fun

A cheaper steak - either a tougher cut or lower grade - can still be a great meal if handled and cooked optimally… but it can’t be confused with a really high quality expensive steak. The only way you can slightly beat the system is buying a couple old school cuts that are basically as good as the famous steakhouse cuts but have fallen out of fashion. That will save a couple bucks only. Beyond that, it’s a simply a matter of how much you can afford to spend for the better steak.

I like how they are all different thickness

I like a choice ribeye. Anything more for a ribeye runs the risk of being potentially overly rich. Even a select is a pretty fatty cut so you don't need too much marble to get a good steak. But I used to work in the HEB market so I've had and enjoyed a lot of all of them. 😂

That $30 steak looked twice the size of the $20 steak too

I'd buy all 3 depending on the cut, the store and the occasion. The recipe also makes an impact.

To keep it fair you should get the all from the large end. The $10 steak is from the small end next to the strip loin. It has very little of the cap. The cap is the most tender and flavorful muscle of the ribeye.

As a butcher block manager at a colorado safeway let me be clear here
Choice is 16.99/lb
Prime is 24.99/lb
BONE IN American Kuro waygu is 47.99/lb
None of those steaks cost even close to the claim here lmao. That waygu was minimum 50-55, probably more considering its boneless.

the $20 is thinner but I'm definitely also not spending $20 usually if im cooking my own steak

You taught me how to cook steak properly with a sear and a butter basting. Thank you, dude. I had to slap my fridge.

Literally just finished eating a $33 prime rib eye. At $27 per lb at my local butcher, I could have skimped and gone with the select cut at $17 per lb, but the extra cost is easily worth it when you taste the fat - it melts and explodes instantly with tons of flavor.

I never buy select anymore I typically go for choice and up for ribeyes and prime for strip

What about comparisons between choice and prime?

Supposedly according to other vids.... the gamier is because it's redder (retaining) blood that got pulled back into the muscle due to adrenaline/not calm during slaughter. Look for good marbling and not dark red color for best taste after cooking to med / med rare

From my experience I’d have to agree on this. I’d like to see a comparison between a regular prime and a grass fed one.
