Did you know that F1 drivers brake from over 300 kph to under 100 kph in 2 seconds over a distance of 120 metres? And did you know that within this very short period, they have to carefully release the brake as the car slows down and, therefore, less downforce is generated? In this episode of our Cutaway Insights series Esteban Gutiérrez talks about the pedals... Enjoy!

For each of the 15 'shorties' of this series, we will pick one particular car part or subject and Chief Designer Matt Morris, Nico Hülkenberg or Esteban Gutiérrez will give a brief explanation about how stuff works and what it does.

There was hardly any insight on how the pedals work in this video.

It's incredible how the Sauber team managed to cut the 2007 car with such precision! Even the brake pedal is perfectly cut in half. Can we have a video of how the car was cut?

Well, you push them down with your feet... The throttle pedal actuates the engine to provide acceleration, the brake pedal actuates the brakes to slow the car down... Easy as that ;-)

Damn, my english.. Did not understand how weight of leg helps or neutralize, is it important? Heel - toe forces, summary force thru braiking,
No, I don't want to know that.

DSR system is actually correct.
they have high quality speakers build in the f1 car so the driver can have some good music to listen to while driving.

Wining Formula BMW and GP3 and finishing third in GP2 is not easy. You think it is easy to drive an F1 car? Bet you even crash with the walls in straight line in videogames.

Finally I know what's the inside of an F1 car. Thanks!

It's a 2008 car. Not possible to make a making of now, unfortunately. But make sure you don't miss the Original Cutaway F1 Car video!

That's a douchey response, in that case, an F1 car is just like my fiat panda, but it isn't, right?

Mercedes did a better job with explaining a bit about the pedals, just like they did on the track ;)
