Yes, Kimiya was at our factory a week prior to the test and we made a special seat for him. Not as sophisticated as the ones we produce for Nico and Esteban, but it kept him in place...

Thanks for your opinion and feedback. We decided to produce 15 'shorties' this year, but we will consider producing longer and more in-depth videos in the future. The trick is to find a compromise that suits 'hard-core nerdish' fans who are interested in every aspect and the more widely spread 'normal' fan who finds these things interesting, but is easily overwhelmed by too much detail. We'd consider you a hard-core nerdish kind of fan, right? ;-)

I realize impacts involving the underside or floor of the car are very rare, but I never knew how "thin" that part of the chassis was!! Great video!

Thanks a lot, we take that as a huge compliment. You did watch the original Cutaway video, did you?

Wow! These episodes give very good insight on the cars.

It's a combination of reasons. One is to lower the centre of gravity, as you guessed. Another one is very simple: regulations. You'll find technical regulations for download on fia(dot)com if you're interested.

I am that kind of fan too. And I also support that idea about deeper and more detailed explaining of F1 technics. But thank you for this vids that make us closer to F1 anyway;-) Good luck during the season!

Good question! No, it isn't. As the g-forces work in all directions all the time, that is not an issue. Interesting fact though: When the drivers get out of the car after the race, their heart rate goes up quite a bit until the blood is spread evenly again...

one thing ive always wondered is how this position doesnt end up causing back issues or coccix wearing out (or any spinal issues at all) that most people have when sitting sloped back like that in a normal chair..

Thanks for the video, I like a lot the way you make F1 near to us the fans. I've one question... Is the pilot position merely for trying to lower the g point as much as you can, or are there other reasons?
Greetings Sauber !!!

I have a question...For testing(like the one this week), do the test drivers meet with sauber in advance and have a seat custom molded for them, or do they just have to hop into another driver's seat?

Aside from the lowest CoG and the reason that Sauber gave you, there really is no OTHER way for the driver to be positioned merely because of how F1 cars are designed. They need to be that low so that the airbox will not be blocked above their helmet, and their feet/legs have to elevated like that because of the raised nose design. When F1 cars had low noses (similar to Indycars) the driver would be in more of an "L" position instead of legs at chest level.

You guys should let me drive one of your cars... I promise not to break anything!

make one of these little feature videos out of it.. idc... it's my dream to drive an F1 car.... I'm a total F1 nerd but too broke to start karting or anything.

i'd guess with all the g-force under braking they get enough blood pushed to their legs
