Yes it is about money. That is why I support Steam over GOG even though GOG is DRM free. It seems obvious that some of the 30% goes towards proton/Linux development

Fun fact: Linux users already know this, and better, we know for a fact that Valve won't abandon Linux for a simple fact: it's insurance, as they control the platform.

Funnier fact: Valve invest "peanuts" on Linux already and their ROI is already huge (because they ride on community-driven projects that would eventually arise with our without them, as has always happened, even before Stream in Linux). And again, Linux users know this, and we don't really care.

Funniest fact: This discussion happens every 5 or so years, and everytime Linux is declared death in the water, it always come back better and stronger, because the communities that prefer it don't simply expect and be grateful for what they are given, but hey to work and enjoy getting what they want, and there's no company in the world that can match that motivation and labor with money (profits are for long-term losers anyway).

So thanks for the advice, but we were here gaming in Linux way before Valve came around, and if they decide to leave, we will be here long after they are gone. We may be grateful, but we understand what we're getting out of the deals we take, and not only for gaming.

I do agree is for the money, question comes why open Source it. They could made proton close source. Or any the code they made. Like other companies do when they all in just for the money.

whatever reason they have, I support that decision and I have bought many games through steam under linux to show my support :)
EDIT: even if they stop supporting it proton is opensource and there is a lot of code donations. look at glorious eggroll and other proton editions. to support and maintain the client is not a big deal really
