“I shouldn’t think there’s virtually a prison in Russia with any people in it because they’re all at the front.”

Putin’s loses are “industrial scale” and “unsustainable”, says Col. Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.

I hate the way that Ukraine has sunk from the top of media coverage here in the US.

To put these numbers in context, if the US, with 3x population of Russia, suffered comparative casualties, it would be well over 1.5 million dead and wounded. The entire Vietnam war saw 55, 000 US casualties, and it was primarily public pressure around the casualty numbers that forced that war to an end. Over a million casualties in the US, without a full-blown revolution, is absolutely unfathomable

‘If only one man dies of hunger, that is a tragedy. If millions die, that’s only statistics’ Line attributed to Stalin. I find this quote quite telling in this situation.

Mighty Russia, the second most powerful military on the planet and they can barely conquer 18% of its neighbour, 40% of its economy dedicated to victory and still only manage 18% of Ukraine, and they had most of that before 2022…. Gotta laugh eh

Everyone keeps saying Russia can’t keep going like this - but they are keeping on going ‘like this’ - so what

What I don't understand, is that with Putin screaming about the US putting Nukes in whatever countries & saying that is a provocation, virtually nothing is said about Putin having put Nukes in Belarus. What gives???

Putin should bring his tables to the front. They are huge.

Russia was already staring over a demographic cliff. The Russian future is going to be bleak.

Giving Ukraine everything it needs to win this war and Ukrainian integration into the EU and NATO is the west’s best self defense.

Another factor is that Russian females outnumber Russian males by seven to six. Thus there are fewer Russian males of military age than Russia's total population would suggest. When you remember that the populations of the two largest cities, Moscow and St Petersburg, are effectively exempt from service, Russia's pool of military manpower is smaller still. I also wonder how long Russia's ethnic minorities (22% of the population) will put up with doing more than their fair share of the fighting.

The grimmest part is the Russian trolls infesting this thread need to think about how close they are to being soldiers sent forward with no hope of return. As the attrition continues there will be a general mobilisation, not just in remote areas far from Moscow. Don't think for a second your supporting words will mean anything when the letter arrives.

I don't understand the restriction - if russia launches an attack on Ukraine from a place, that place should be the new acceptable range for Ukraine to attack. That way, russia can still determine western strategy (which western leaders seem to prefer) but Ukraine can still defend itself from the attacks russia launches over the border.

Russia has lost 570K-600K KIA/WIA, mostly men, from poor eastern communities, and also 1.2+ million, educated men fleeing conscription/early death. Russia's hemorrhaging men. Russia falsely entices migrants as labour, but who, in return for VISA get a short life on the Ukraine battlefield. Such losses, deceit are unsustainable!
