Everyone here forgets that Russia is in a similar position as _France_ after Franco-Prussia. There is no 'silent anti-Putin majority'; there is a very 'Revanchist' (derived from revanche, aka the French word for revenge) majority. People forget just how bad the '90s were, and one of the few unifying elements of Russia's political field _is_ that desire for revenge. If you're not a revanchist, you're not getting _anywhere_ in Russia politically.

What this video fails to understand is this: a strongman ruler is only in power so long as he is perceived as strong - losing the war will make him appear weak and then even his closest allies will turn on him…
