I don't think Russians were ever any good at maintaining their aircraft and tanks, but due to wartime pressures and the bad storage condition ( out in the open air for years and decades ) the job of getting stuff running and keeping stuff running has become a lot harder.

There have also been reports of inexperienced tank crews destroying or disabling their own vehicles in hopes of getting out of combat. POWs have reported this.

I still believe that the downfall of Russian tanks isn't because of a flawed Design or doctrine. It's their lack of maintenanc, training and, mostly, the incredible corruption.
A western country with it's corruption in check and a population that could handle high losses in manpower would be a beast with modernised t80s.

But all the potential of Russian tanks doesn't matter in a conflict with nato.
The Russian airforce and AA systems are so outclassed by American tech that ground forces wouldn't stand a chance.

The problem with this war and why it is so stupid, is that if another conflict appears, not necessarily external but also internal, Russia will not have the strength to stop it and even more so if they are separatist groups, which Russia has many of those, even more so for example the Baltic Republican Party, if they achieve it and manage to capture all the weapons in Kaliningrad, it is basically game over, they will not be able to do anything.

It didn’t deceive the Pentagon. In 1990’s as Satellite imagery got better we could see tanks never moved, were missing turrets (telephone poles stuck in hole). Hatches which were left open for YEARS. Making them a home for rants and water.
