Is Homosexuality in Your Genes?

Scientists have identified two new genetic connections to homosexuality. Does this confirm that there are predisposed sexual orientations?

Read More:

What do the new ‘gay genes’ tell us about sexual orientation?
“Two gene variants have been found to be more common in gay men, adding to mounting evidence that sexual orientation is at least partly biologically determined. For the first time, individual genes have been identified that may influence how sexual orientation develops in boys and men, both in the womb and during life.”

Where Is It Illegal To Be Gay?
“There are many places in the world where it's illegal to be gay. In fact, according to the U.N., homosexuality is a crime in at least 75 countries, 13 of which impose the death penalty for homosexual acts. Anti-gay laws are most pervasive in Africa and the Middle East.”

Study of gay brothers may confirm X chromosome link to homosexuality
“Dean Hamer finally feels vindicated. More than 20 years ago, in a study that triggered both scientific and cultural controversy, the molecular biologist offered the first direct evidence of a “gay gene,” by identifying a stretch on the X chromosome likely associated with homosexuality. But several subsequent studies called his finding into question.”

"It's possible to have these genes and still not be gay. ". knew that was coming.

The actual study says their is a correlation, NOT causation. There's a huge difference between the two.

I look forward to the day when announcing your gay is of equal importance to announcing your height.

We are all flesh and blood. Can't we respect reason and respect one another too...

Before i clicked on the video i knew there would be a lot of dislike. I'm not even suprised to see how many morons clicked on the dislike button just because they "disagree". The fun thing about science is that it doen't care if you agree or not, the facts are there. Cry more.

I would like more research into other identities (like researching women's sexuality and the science behind them being lesbian etc) I agree that it would probably be complicated but not like it wasn't complicated to do really any kind of study including human subjects.

I have a question though, if homosexuality is related to someone's genes then how can it be passed on to the next progeny if the individuals involved are 'gay'? Or these genes are present in all of us and only expressed in certain conditions? I'm kinda confused... Can someone help me out?

I don’t know what amuses me more, the video or the comment section. Still seems like there are people who believe everything in the world should operate how they believe it to. Meanwhile I’m a gay man sitting at home about to be married to my fiancé because it’s no one else’s business who we like. Wether you believe it’s genetics or not, do you truly think you should be in control of ones happiness? You can hate gay people, I don’t care, I wouldn’t hate you. People have their preference, but the moment you go and try to tell other people how to live their lives? That’s when it doesn’t matter your opinion, you just become a bad person.

Edit- Holy crap, never thought I’d get so many nice comments and likes, thank you! And btw, yes, we are happy and doing well, thank you for asking!

Hmm... Whether our environment growing up plays a role among other variables is unknown but people who keep saying homosexuality is a choice suuuure like to say that a lot... I wonder if they made that choice?

For a science channel, there is a shocking and disappointing amount of people here who think homosexuality is a choice. I'm sure nearly every one of these people has never actually met a gay person, because many gay people have [for good reason] lived with chronic fear and depression, for a feeling they can't control. Do you *really* think someone would will themselves into being hated by society, disowned by their family, and shunned by their culture? That's utterly ridiculous. Only in the past 20 or so years has prejudice against homosexuality been on a steady decline, but it's still a rampant problem in a lot of the world. For most of human civilization, being gay was often a death sentence (or at least as bad as one).

So no - it's not a choice.
