Whether or not this phenomenon happens every time the swords clash together strongly, or it's a rare occurrence, I frankly don't know.

Other people have done some experiments on it, but I would like to do my own, cuz I'm a hands-on kind of guy.

Luckily, I have some sharp swords coming in that I can do this experiment on, and I will film the results!

I could discuss with you two years of r&d I've had with such things, as it was how I got into sword fighting and was ABSOLUTELY dangerous, but those I practiced with were rather seasoned with a small amount of knicks, scratches, and scars from it all. Hell, I even got a few.

My brother and I have done this, slowly of course but fast enough to leave marks and knicks all over my blade. And yes we did lock up just once but his blade was bending against my much thicker blade and we were stuck there for a second. It was a real challenge for me because his jian was much longer than my what was basically an oversized Kris blade. Fun memory though.

You can hear the slip-stick that is causing the vibration or "sing" of the clashing blades at lower intensity, as well. Just listen to this vid's audio. When "fuhlen" is mentioned, they make a staccato from the slip-stick.

Me and a friend have an unspoken rule with the bite where we just make small talk while we try to get it sorted out

I did some testing. The bite is due to the mutual denting of the blades. So 2 sharp blades meeting with a moderate force won't slide. In some historical techniques, there are examples in which one have to turn their blade to oppose the flat against the opponent's blade in order to slide easily. Flamberge type blade could also have the purpose of controling the sticking-unsticking of the blades more unilaterally, if that makes sense. Anyway, it is possible to simulate the bite effect in a secure way with serated trainers.

I don't know if you'll see this but my father and some of the other actors we worked with would do full speed sword fights going fast enough that if they missed they would've seriously wounded each other, the swords would often stick but only momentarily most of the time they seemed to bounce slightly upon impact causing them to reconnect without being stuck. Hope this helps

Hey, no cap I’ve experienced the bite.
I won’t give details but sharp swords were involved but no injuries to either of us. The 5160 sword held up nicely and did a number on the other sword. It came out with a few chips on the edge.
