I'm a firm believer that time blocking and a rigid calendar is somewhat harmful for most people's long term success. However like Ray Dalio said "Principles are ways of successfully dealing with reality to get what you want out of life." So I gathered some of my early learning from 2018 to today and summarized them in 7 principles that enabled me to better manage my time, energy and attention.

BTW, I'm very sorry to have mis-pronounced Tim Pychyl's name, big fan of his work, but apparently I have never heard his podcast where people actually spoke his name :D.

Let me know if there's anything I missed or any suggestion to further improve my video in the future. Any comment is welcomed and I try to reply to every single one in time. As always, thanks for stoping by, Cheer :)

I feel like right at this time, this moment, this period of my life, this is the video I needed. I feel like now I can leave the internet and go live and actually manage my live correctly. I have an obsession with self-improvement, but not for the sake self-improvement, I want to be better, the achieve meaningful things. Everything said in this video feels like I already knew deep inside, but just could not connect them. THANK YOU so much for this video. The amount of time end effort you spent struggling to figure these things out, the time spent making the video, it was all worth it a 1000x.

I appreciate this thank you, I see some comments about ADHD here but as someone who has ADHD (ADD) I do find this incredibly helpful. Not being bound by specific calendars but managing your guiding principles is a great way to look at this. A lot of what you described here is managing dopamine. I especially liked the idea of: you’re procrastinating find a way to reward (dopamine) yourself while you do the task. That’s a big one, and really the most effective when I’m struggling. Usually people fail to illustrate how to ‘reward’ yourself effectively but I liked how you illustrated it (taxes in the park, snacks during the work not as a reward after full completion).

Would be interesting to hear more about the parenting vs non work goals time dynamic. Like I need to keep up on yard work, laundry, cooking, cleaning, remodling the house, all while having 2 children under 4 to help look out for. I work 50 hours a week with an hour of commuting time each day monday thru friday, so im struggling lol

On the topic of energy and focus in the morning or after a snack. Without having read the cited studies I would hazard a guess the participant were all on the standard american diet (SAD) which is very high in carbohydrats that spike blood sugar levels which then crash and give the feeling of tiredness and being irritable until it's brought back up by more carbs (and then crash again and so on)

(The tiredness can be masked by caffeine intake)

There are diets which try to keep energy levels more even for the whole day. Worth looking into especially for people with (pre) type-2-diabetes, brain fog, memory issues and lots of other issues.

Just food for thought.

Very helpful! Would be great if you could do a video about managing all of this as a parent & any tips because children can throw unexpected wrenches into plans.
